INTRODUCTION - G0400 =============================================================================== =============================================================================== Hello! I am Damir Kolar and I welcome you to my new project. I covered pretty much all WA games out so far (WA2 is still an exception), and now WA5 is out... so 2 + 2 = 5 (somebody shoot me), and here's another guide from moi... Wild Arms The Vth Vanguard guide! Now let me to address some things: - Picture coverage - I have a TV Tuner, thus enabling me to play games directly onto PC. Meaning? Since the game is fairly simple in regards to puzzles, all of them can be explained with words rather nicely. I focused on taking pics of all the treasure chests and items that are obtained thru events or by searching on the screen in towns. - Spoiler issue - I'm the player of the game, just like you (who is reading this guide) are. First time I've played through the game was completely by myself - therefore nothing was spoiled for me. All the story elements that were supposed to surprise me had such effect. Spoilers included in the guide are names of bosses that you fight at the end of storyline portion of the game. - Usage of abbreviations. If you've glanced over some of my other guides, you see that long ago I've grown accustomed to using abbreviations for certain words. Old habits die hard... Are you ready? Power up your PS2, open the disc tray, pop in WA5 DVD, close the disc tray, wait for Media Vision logo to appear, hit Start button, and then select second option from the left, followed by picking top option. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Quick Tips On Importing In order to play a Japanese game for the PS2, you'll need a Japanese PS2. I do not recommend any other method such as the mod chip. You can get a Japanese PS2 at the following sites: play-asia.com japanvideogames.com ncsx.com If you live in North America, you DO NOT need a power converter. A Japanese PS2 is all you need. If you live in Europe, you will need one. As for memory cards and controllers, you don't need Japanese ones. Unlike the PS2 which has region locks, memory cards and controllers do not have them, therefore it can be said they are region free. This applies to most other accessories unless it's stated otherwise. So, once again, a Japanese PS2 is all you need. Back on the game, you will need a Japanese version of WA5. The game and the console need to be the same region. To get yourself a copy of WA5 (Japanese version), you can try the above sites as well. =============================================================================== =============================================================================== 05.) HOW TO BEGIN - G0700 =============================================================================== =============================================================================== After you have inserted WA5 disc in PS2, wait for few official logos to go by before title screen appears. Once you're prompted to hit Start button, do so for memory card screen to appear. It will scan both memory card slots for any possible WA5 data (in case you've played before) and offer these options (from left to right): LOAD - This option allows you to continue the game from previously saved data. Select [Load], then select the data you wish to load. You will be asked for confirmation, so select [Yes] and loading is complete. NEW GAME - This option will allow you to start a brand new game. Watch the introduction scene and after a while you will have the control in your hands. Happy gaming! EX FILE - Meet 9 different requirements during your gameplay in order to unlock special features. Pick this option and then select the save you wish to check - game will load it and scan what requirements have been met, then inform you of your success so far via a special screen. Press Start after you're done examining. You will need a memory card to be able to save your progress. It is highly improbable (though possible) you will beat this game in one sitting, and being able to save progress on memory card is invaluable. How does one save anyway? During your quest you will find platforms emitting green light - these are save points (and there is save parrot in towns). Stand near one and press X/Circle to bring up a menu (you will also get healed fully), then pick first option to advance to Save screen. Choose memory card slot, and then select a spot you would like to save. You need at least 25KB of space on your memory card to make one save slot. If data already exists on the spot you wish to save, you will be asked if you want to overwrite the previous data. MAKE SURE YOU SAVE EARLY AND THAT YOU SAVE OFTEN! You might as well keep multiple saves around, just in case something goes horribly wrong - by having more than one save, you can reload and try to beef yourself up. As for memory card, it's region free which means that if you're playing WA4 Japanese version with a Japanese PS2 or a NA/PAL PS2 with modchip or any other method, you don't need a Japanese PS2 memory card. Either Japanese, NA or PAL PS2 memory card is fine. =============================================================================== =============================================================================== 08.) THREE GAME MODES - G0800 =============================================================================== =============================================================================== WA5 consists of three main modes. They're briefly explained in this section. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- -------------------------------- ACTIVE FIELD --------------------------------- -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Active field will be used quite a lot. In this field you walk around in a town, a dungeon or world map (OMG, world map is baaaaack!), talk to various NPC for clues on where to go next (sometimes getting an item from them as well), check barrels and such for hidden items, examine treasure chests, solve puzzles, go crazy shopping for items or weapons, and so on. Command list is displayed in upper left, denoting all possible actions at the moment. In lower left corner floor's number is displayed (except when on world map), and Encounter Break (except when in town). In lower right corner you have the compass. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TREASURE CHESTS Regarding treasure chests, they come in several varieties. BROWN CHEST - the regular one, can be opened straight away (you can also shoot it to claim the contents) BLUE CHAINED CHEST - requires Power Shot to open BLUE CHEST - requires Duplo to open ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SAVING YOUR GAME When you examine the save point, you will get following options: Save - allows you to save your game Modify ARM - modify chrs' ARMs with Dragon Fossils you acquired (see below) Hint - a clue about what's happened and where you're supposed to go Same options are available when talking to a memory bird. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SOL NIGER Located in various spots (there's 26 of them total), they allow you to be healed to full. When you first find one, it will be blackish in color - examine it and you will be prompted if you wish to purify it. Say yes and you're thrust into event battle - win it to purify Sol Niger, which will turn white. When it is purified, you will then be allowed to turn encounters ON / OFF by pressing R2. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TOOLS (or GOODS in Japanese version) REGULAR BULLET - Use L1 or L2 to select the standard cartridge, then press Square to fire a standard shot. Standard shots allow you to strike or break distant objects. For rapid fire, hold the Square button. FREEZE RAY - Use L1 or L2 to select the Freeze Ray cartridge, then press Square to shoot a beam of frigid air that can freeze objects. FIRE BULLET - Use L1 or L2 to select the Fire Bullet cartridge, then press Square to shoot a ball of fire from the ARM. Tu build up energy and make the fireball travel faster, hold the Square button. DETECTOR - Use L1 or L2 to select the Detector cartridge, then press Square to activate the Detector and scan the area Dean is currently in. The detector will indicate any treasure chests that have not yet been opened. Hidden magic gems will also be revealed, and invisible floors and stairways will become visible. Areas that seem like dead-ends may in fact have secret exits that can only be found with the Detector. POWER SHOT - Use L1 or L2 to select the Power Shot cartridge, then press Square to shoot a powerful missile which can destroy rocks or walls that block the path. ANCHOR HOOK - Use L1 or L2 to select the Anchor Hook cartridge, then press Square to shoot a hook into the air. The hook can be used to pull Dean toward poles floating in the air, or to pull objects with handles toward Dean. DUEL SIGN - Use L1 or L2 to select the Duel Sign cartridge, then press Square to shoot a cloud of miasma into the air, drawing monsters to Dean. The Duel Sign cartridge can also be used to release sealed monsters. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- COINS AND COIN BAGS You will sometimes see coins scattered around. They can point you in the right way or can be there just for the hell of it. Coin bags are usually hidden inside breakable objects which can be slid into or shot with Dean's ARM (once you acquire it). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ARM MODIFICATION When you talk to save parrot or examine green save point, you can choose to modify chr's ARMs. Each Dragon Fossil you acquire will allow you one additional modification - so if you have 3x Dragon Fossil, you can perform up to three mods on one ARM When you choose Modify ARM command, you will see following info: - Dragon Fossils in your inventory (left side) - total level of chr's ARMs modifications (left side) - remaining/maximum amount of modifications left (right side) - ATT increase and lv of mod (right side) - MAG increase and lv of mod (right side) - FP gain increase and lv of mod (right side) - triangle showing development of chr's ARM -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- -------------------------------- BATTLE FIELD --------------------------------- -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- While walking around on active field in dungeons (and sometimes in towns as well) or waltzing on world map, you may engage in random battles, thus initiating battle mode. The battle ends once: - your party has killed all enemies - your party escaped - you kill some enemies, but then escape - enemies escape from battle Aside from random battles, you will need to claim victory in several event battles (usually boss battles). EB (event battles) cannot be escaped from. After battle ends, you get EXP and gella for enemies killed and maybe an item, if one of your chrs happened to stand in the hex where item was hiding. Items obtained in this way have nothing to do with items enemies carry. If you kill some of the enemies, but then escape, you get EXP and gella for enemies that you killed before escaping. Likewise, if you kill some enemies, but then remaining enemies escape, you get EXP and gella for enemies you successfully subdued. If all of your battling chrs become KO-ed or petrified, you receive Game Over. If that happens, you have two choices: top option allows you to retry the battle you lost once again, while bottom option returns you to title screen. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- ------------------------------- WORLD MAP FIELD ------------------------------- -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- When on world map, you can move between towns and dungeons, save your game at save points scattered here and there, fiddle around with main menu, and press Square to initiate SS - if an item or treasure box is within SS' range, it will reveal itself, so all you gotta do is walk to it and press X/Circle to claim it. Small compass is displayed in lower right corner. Green dots represent towns and save points, and red dots represent dungeons. When world map is brought up, you can view all places you've visited so far. Green names represent towns and the like. Red names represent dungeons. White circle represents your next destination. Press L1/R1 to switch between portions of Filgaia. "X" and "Y" coordinates appear in upper right corner, noting your position on the world of Filgaia. =============================================================================== =============================================================================== 09.) MAIN MENU - G0900 =============================================================================== =============================================================================== Pressing Triangle while on world map or active field will bring up main menu. - top left corner you have the name of the place you're currently in - top right corner total play time, with total gella acquired - help line below - seven available submenus on left half of the screen - chrs' avatars on right side of the screen (next to their avatars you'll see current LV achieved, name of the chr, current/MAX HP, current/MAX MP, and amount of EXP needed to reach next LV. - not all options are available from start of game, but you will get them soon enough Let's discuss those seven submenus now. They're shaped like a big hexagon, with six smaller hexagons surrounding middle hexagon. ORDER EQUIP 1 2 GOLEM ITEMS MEDIUM 3 4 5 STATUS SYSTEM 6 7 -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- -------------------------------- ORDER SUBMENU -------------------------------- -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Allows you to switch positions of two chrs. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- -------------------------------- EQUIP SUBMENU -------------------------------- -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Here you can equip weapons, armor and badges. Please note that you can only change chr's ammo, armor or badges - a chr will always have the same weapon. On chr's right his/her stats are displayed. When equipment is changed, one or more statistics will change as well - if a stat will go up, red arrow will appear next to the stat; if a stat will go down, you will know so by blue arrow. Regarding badges: they act like accessories. From start of game you will be able to equip one badge per chr, however the number of available badge slots increases as chrs level up and they must have a Medium equipped. 1st slot - initially available 2nd slot - reach lv10 3rd slot - reach lv20 4th slot - reach lv40 5th slot - reach lv80 Cycle between chrs with L1/R1. Press Select to display the chr, and then rotate him/her with right analog. Press Select to display the badge, and then rotate it with right analog. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- -------------------------------- GOLEM SUBMENU -------------------------------- -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Appears after you obtain your golem muuuuch later in the game. Lets you view golem's stats, equipment, abilities, and attack pattern. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- -------------------------------- ITEMS SUBMENU -------------------------------- -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- This submenu is divided into seven subcategories. FIELD ITEMS - Here you will find items which you can use only when on field screen. BATTLE ITEMS - Here you will find items which you can use only when on battle screen. WEAPONS - View all ammo acquired so far. ARMORS - View all armors acquired so far. BADGES - View all badges acquired so far. GOLEM - View all golem parts acquired so far. BOOKS - View all books acquired so far. To cycle between subcategories, press L1 or R1. You can also arrange items to your liking, or having the game auto-arrange them for you by pressing Square. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- -------------------------------- MEDIUM SUBMENU ------------------------------- -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- This submenu allows you to equip chrs with mediums acquired so far. First you will need to select a chr, and then choose between equipping a medium or being taken to GC Graph. EQUIP MEDIUM Each chr can equip one medium. Medium is like a learning tool - when chr gains specific levels, more and more abilities on medium become unlocked. These abilities range from passive personal skills to force abilities. Once a chr has equipped the medium, you can take it off anytime afterwards and give to somebody else. Press Select to remove 'equipped medium' portion of the screen so that you can view all abilities medium grants. Press L1/R1 to cycle between chrs. GC GRAPH This submenu lets you view all Personal Skills (PS for short) chr can learn once certain level is reached. Here you can do two things: - remove all GC points invested in PS (explained below) - invest GC points in PS chrs haven't learned yet, thus enabling them to gain access to some PS way earlier (explained below) Now, about GC point (GCP for short) distribution: - For each LV chr gains one GCP is awarded (maximum of 100 GCP at lv100). - You can expend GCP to allow chrs learn PS way before they reach required level. Example: Avril is lv70, so she has 70 GCP. There is "Add Badge Slot" PS she can learn at lv80. But instead of waiting that long, you can expend 10 GCP and she will learn that PS (denoted by silver star). - Don't overdo it with GCP distribution, as each GCP you expend decreases MAX HP by 50 points. - You can withdraw GCP the same way you expend them. Or place the cursor on GCP bar, press X/Circle and choose top option to withdraw all of them at once. - Once PS is mastered by reaching required level, it will be marked as such with gold star and words "MASTER" appearing next to it. If any GCP were expended towards that PS, these GCP are returned to your GCP total. Press L1/R1 to cycle between chrs. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- -------------------------------- STATUS SUBMENU ------------------------------- -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Consists of five subpages with following info: SUBPAGE 1 (STATS) NAME - Name of chr whose goods you're checking... Depending on the type of OC used, chr is allowed to target any hex on the battlefield, adjacent hexes or two hexes in a straight line, etc. 4. ATTACK/SHOOT Use the equipped weapon to attack nearby hex. Amount of times this command can be used depends on amount of bullets left. If chr runs out of bullets, you must have him/her execute Guard command to reload. - Rebecca's and Greg's ARMs have a reach to any hex in a straight line. - Carol's ARM can shoot from any hex to any hex. - After chr moves, he/she can also Attack in *same* turn (but you cannot Attack first, then move later!). 5. FORCE ABILITIES Use chr's FA (depending on equipped medium) or learned FCA (for more info on latter, please look into Force Combination Arts subsection under Battlefield entry). You need at least 25 FP to perform FA. 6. GUARD/MOVE To execute Guard command, you must target the same hex you're standing in - chr will guard until next turn and, assuming few shots have already been fired, also reload his/her ARM. Move command moves your chr to nearby unoccupied hex or to nearby hex already occupied with other party member/s (after chr moves, he/she can execute any other action, except for Move). Please note the following: Six outer hexes have another "boundary", which points to "outside". If you manage to have one of your chrs successfully reach this "boundary", your party escapes from battle (you will need to confirm your decision before escaping). Event battles cannot be escaped from! After your party has 4 or more chrs, and you select "boundary", you will get the option of choosing either to flee or replace the chr with someone from reserve. Replacing the chr will end the current turn. 7. SYSTEM Fiddle around with game settings (the same as in main menu, except that you can't load previous game from here). -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- --------------------------- CHARACTERS' QUICK INFO ---------------------------- -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- You will see this in lower portion. It consists of five things: - chr's name - current / maximum HP (if 100% > HP > 20%, the first number is white; if in critical HP, first number is red; if KO-ed, first number is grey; second number is always white) - red bar, representing ratio of current to MAX HP - current MP (number is always white) - green bar, representing ratio of current to MAX MP -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- ------------------------------ BATTLE TURN ORDER ------------------------------ -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Appears near the top of battle screen. It shows up to eleven entries with small avatars of your chrs, or having letters "A", "B" (along with "BOSS" note above it, if you're fighting one) in it. The entry which appears on far left is the combatant whose turn currently is. Once that combatant makes the move, his/her/its turn ends and it's next combatant's turn. Reaction stat of combatants dictates how quickly they get a turn, as well as equipment carried and previous actions they did in battle. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- --------------------------- PPS ACTIVATION NOTICES ---------------------------- -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- As battle progresses, and if your chrs have learned/mastered any PPS so far, once the requirements for PPS activation have been met, you will be notified of PPS activating by a small notice in upper left corner just below Turn Order. Example: Chr has learned PPS Gemstone, which awards you with an element gem if a foe is defeated with elemental Blast. At the moment such foes is defeated, you will see Gemstone's name appear in upper right corner, and one element gem will be added to your inventory. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- --------------------------------- FORCE GAUGE --------------------------------- -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Appears on bottom right of the screen and consists of two bars. Blue bar on the right fills as various actions occur in battle: - your chr attacks an enemy - enemy attacks your chr - chr guards - and so on... As it reaches values of 25, 50, 75 and 100, red segments on the left will fill up. If at least one is full, you can have one of your chrs perform FA. 0 < FP < 25 - Force Level 0 24 < FP < 50 - Force Level 1 49 < FP < 75 - Force Level 2 74 < FP < 100 - Force Level 3 FP = 100 - Force Level MAX You may wonder just for how much does FP rise if certain actions are performed in battle, be it you attacking the enemies or vice versa. There's a lot of actions in battle that make your FP rise, and several actions which make it drop. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ACTION TYPE | FP GAIN ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Offensive action | 5,5 FP Guard action | 8,2 FP Taking damage ([damage / MAX HP] x 25) | Formula FP HP recovery | 4,6 FP ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ACTION TYPE | FP LOSS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Medium's Force Ability is used | 25 / 50 / 75 / 100 FP Force Combination Art is used | 25 / 50 FP Enemy's attack on team's FG | 50 / 100 FP -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- --------------------------------- BATTLEFIELD --------------------------------- -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Battlefield consists of six smaller hexes surrounding middle hex, thus seven hexes in total. When battle begins, your chrs and enemies encountered are randomly positioned in hexes. Exceptions are event battles (usually when you fight a boss) - in this case position of hexes can be very different, and I will be listing them under boss battle entries. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- LEY POINTS First thing to take into account are Ley Points (LP for short). You will always find three LP in one battle. Their colors are: RED - FIRE BLUE - WATER GREEN - WIND YELLOW - EARTH Now, what do LP affect? Quite a few things, actually. - fire and water are opposed to each other, as are wind and earth - if you're standing in water LP, you take half damage from water attacks - if you're standing in water LP, you take double damage from fire attacks - same applies for fire, wind and earth LP - likewise, if enemy is standing in water LP, and you use a fire attack against it, you'll score double damage - some OC are given element properties if you're standing on a respective LP ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- HEX OCCUPATION Single hex can be occupied by up to three chrs or four enemies (some enemies are very large in size, and as such only one fits in one hex). A combination of say one enemy and two chrs standing in same hex is not possible. There are four enemy "sizes", so to speak. They are: S - small (equals 1) M - medium (equals 2) L - large (equals 3) XL - extra large (equals 4) Note: All of your chrs belong to S size. What else does hex occupation mean for you? - any attack on a hex will affect everybody in it (same applies for both your chrs and your enemies) - using an item on a hex will affect everybody in it ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BATTLE NOTICES As battle progresses, sometimes colored numbers or other notices pop up. GREEN NUMBER - denotes HP or MP recovery WHITE NUMBER - MP loss BLOW OUT! - instantly destroys the target NO EFFECT! - attack used has no effect on target BLOCK! - a physical attack on target hex has been blocked GUARD! - combatant guards until next turn - reduces all types of damage MISS! - physical attack missed the target - status attempt failed HP loss has interesting approach. According to enemy's weaknesses and attributes, HP loss has following colors: GREY NUMBER - denotes HP loss, but the enemy halves it or is resistant to the damage from attack type you just used YELLOW NUMBER - enemy is immune to attack type you just used, and instead absorbs damage as HP recovery YELLOW NUMBER - enemy is immune to attack type you just used, and instead absorbs damage as HP recovery along with increasing some stats RED NUMBER - denotes HP loss, and the enemy is weak to attack type you just used (double damage is inflicted) WHITE NUMBER - denotes HP loss, and the enemy takes normal damage from attack type you just used Regarding types of attacks, here are the battle icons used: SQUARE - physical attack, ATK governs the damage inflicted - can indicate special occurences in battle (enemy skips a turn) - can indicate use of certain battle items (Heal Berry) WHITE CIRCLE - magical attack, MAG governs the damage inflicted HYBRID1 - looks like half-circle, half-square - most often denotes attacks with elemental affinities HYBRID2 - looks like half-square, with small crown on top - denotes usage of FA and FCA RED CIRCLE - can indicate use of damage inflicting battle item ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DETONATION MODE When battle starts, you may see one or more of your chrs glow in blue light. This means their stats are raised until Detonation mode ends (chr falls or mode runs out by itself). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- EXP BONUS RATE Certain actions during battle award extra EXP to the base [x1,0 EXP] when battle is over. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FORCE COMBINATION ARTS If at least two or more chrs are standing in same hex, they are at high enough level, they aren't affected by any negative status changes, and provided that FG is at respective value (see below), then chrs may randomly learn FCA. You will know so when you'll see partner chrs engage in small conversation before FCA is learned and added to their FA battle submenu. All you have left to do is select it and watch the enemies fly. - 2P FCA: You need at least 25 FP and correct partner chrs standing in same hex ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- POST BATTLE ITEMS Sometimes after battle ends, there may be an item in one of seven hexes. If you have a chr in the same hex item appeared in, item is yours to keep. There is a badge Treasure Tone which beeps when chr equipped with it enters a hex with an item. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ENEMY'S ELEMENTAL AFFINITIES There's seven of them: WEAK - enemy takes double damage HALVED - enemy halves the damage RESIST - enemy takes no damage FATAL - enemy is instantly destroyed when struck with element weakness NORMAL - enemy takes normal damage ABSORB - enemy absorbs damage as HP recovery ACTIVE - enemy absorbs damage as HP recovery, stats are temporarily raised ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SHERIFF STAR'S GOODNESS Sheriff Star increases HP by 500, MP by 50, and all other stats by 25 points. In addition it carries the effects of all Rank A badges. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CHAIN! CHAIN! CHAIN! The more turns your chrs have one after another, the higher the damage you can deal to your enemies (and vice versa). Number of chain appears just below Turn Order. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SWITCHING ACTIVE BATTLE MEMBERS When you have four or more chrs to choose from, you can switch them on the fly during battles. Select any member that's standing on a hex with "escape point" status and select outer ring of that hex - you'll get the option of "Swap Member" or "Flee". Select the former to choose another chr and confirm to have those two chrs switch places. =============================================================================== =============================================================================== 11.) WALKTHROUGH - G1300 =============================================================================== =============================================================================== Welcome to Wild Arms: The Vth Vanguard! ================================== FOREWORD =================================== At the moment this guide is mostly lacking in strategies for boss fights. I will eventually include them in future updates, so just have patience until then, please. And now... enjoy Wild Arms the Vth Vanguard! Yours truly Damir Kolar ================================== FOREWORD =================================== TIP: Usually the levels of enemies you encounter (check them out under Analyze battle option) are suggested levels your chrs should be at to ensure you're not underleveled. This comes in especially handy when facing boss enemies. TIP: Any item obtained from treasure chest will be preceeded by "ITEM -", while items obtained in any other way will just appear in capital letters. Once you have pressed Start at the beginning screen and chosen New Game, you will need to wade through bunch of options. Once you're done with them, you will eventually gain the control of Dean (begins at lv1, armed with weapon BLACK FENRIR, and armor FIBER COAT), who is in... =============================================================================== HILLSIDE RUINS =============================================================================== 2 chests = 2 TOTAL OUT OF 362 Party lv1 6 chests inside this dungeon; need Anchor Hook; need 2x Duplo; need Detector; need Fire Bullet Return to this dungeon later in the game to claim the rest of goodies. 4 chests remain F1: After initial scenes use this screen as a test ground for various actions Dean can do: jump, sliding, stomp diving etc. Your main menu currently has Items, Status and System. When you think you've had enough of fooling around, go S. No battles are fought yet, so you can relax. F2: Continue S and a tutorial about field camera will follow. White spinning coins are gella - pick them up for 1 gella per coin. Woohoo! Step on floor switch and S door opens. F3: Go to SW corner. F4: Open two chests for ITEM - 2x HEAL BERRY, and ITEM - 2x BREAK. F3: Go E for another tutorial about pushing and moving certain types of blocks. Get close to the stone block, then press and hold X/Circle to grab onto it. Push or pull the block onto floor switch to open E door. F4: Continue S, and tutorial about Route Tracker will appear. You can toggle it ON/OFF by pressing Select. Take a look at the arrows next to exits: - blue arrow means that you haven't explored in that direction yet - red arrow denotes from where you came into current floor - yellow arrow denotes that you have already explored in the direction Exit locations are now also displayed in the compass. F6: Go S for a tutorial about crouching, sliding and breaking certain objects. Break wooden crates in front of you, then jump up the ledge. You will obtain REBECCA'S JOURNAL. F7: S door cannot be opened yet. Break the pots around the room for FIRE, and VORTEX, then check the glowing spots in piles of earth for various items. You may receive some gella or element gems... in one pile you will get GOLEM PART. This completes the excursion into the ruins, so return to F1 and exit N. =============================================================================== CAPO BRONCO =============================================================================== 2 chests = 4 TOTAL OUT OF 362 2 chests inside this town All chests claimed! F2: After the scene you can start exploring - examine stuff and try to take everything that's nailed down. Hm, that won't work... when you're done, exit S. F1: Talk to Strong-Willed Shopmistress to get GELLA CARD. OMG, is that a memory bird that I see? *readies shotgun and shoots it* Correction, it *was* a memory bird. Sniff... this handy pal can completely recover your HP and MP, save your game, as well as allow ARM modifications (but not at the moment) and Hint function (as one might expect, a tutorial pops up). F3: Inside the house there's nothing worth to take, so go back out. F2: In SE corner get a chest for ITEM - 3x HEAL BERRY. Talk to red-headed girl and she will join your party - say hello to Rebecca (joins at lv1, equipped with weapon PIZZICATO PISTOL, ARM part SWIFT REVOLVER, and armor HOT DENIM). She's hot alright, there's no denying that... Main menu gains Order submenu. The woman that gave you Gella Card has opened her shop now (tutorial), but we hardly have enough cash for anything right now. Also check behind one of the houses for a chest with ITEM - 250 GELLA. Exit the village into world map - you can talk to Guard for directions to Celestial Peak. =============================================================================== WORLD MAP =============================================================================== YESSS! The world map is back! I missed it so much in WA4. *hugs Rebecca tightly and gets slapped* OK, let's see now... to your left and right are two berry trees. Check one out for another tutorial about how you can pick berries off these tress on specific intervals. You will be able to find Heal Berry trees, Potion Berry trees and Mega Berry trees... and LVL Apple trees as well! While you're walking around, press Square to initiate Search System (SS for short) - if there's item or treasure box nearby, they're going to be revealed. Right now there's several treasure boxes you can rob, but I would suggest that we wait until we get Field Viewer ("X" and "Y" coordinates and that crap). To get to your current destination, follow the path going from Capo Bronco until you get to the ledge to the left of the river stream. Follow the ledge and you will enter next dungeon. =============================================================================== CELESTIAL PEAK =============================================================================== 6 chests = 10 TOTAL OUT OF 362 Party lv1 10 chests inside this dungeon; need Power Shot Return to this dungeon later in the game to claim the rest of goodies. 4 chests remain F1: DUNGEON VIEWER acquired, with complimentary tutorial! Battle commands currently at your disposal are Analyze, Items, Attack/Shoot, Guard/Move and System. After Dean (or Reb) does his turn, another tutorial about moving appears. When you win, proceed further. F2: Use the log to cross to other side, and pretty soon we got ourselves the first bangerang of the game. Kema begins in wind LP at the end, and our two chrs are two hexes away. Abuse Reb's ability to shoot across two hexes and start picking on boss' HP. On Dean's turn move him into hex3 and shovel the boss into oblivion. When boss' turn comes around, it's likely to move into hex2. In that case, have Reb occupy hex4 and Dean hex1 to prevent boss from using special attacks. By the time boss reaches 3rd turn it'll be history. Once purified, Sol Niger turns white and now allows you to turn Encounter Break ON/OFF with R2, thus eliminating random encounters (tutorial). Return to cross and take the other path. F12: Incoming!
