With a massive diehard fanbase Suikoden has become one of the more popular RPG series on Playstation and Playstation 2 (and hopefully, Playstation 3). I truthfully admit to being one of them. As an RPG writer, I had to write for Suikoden Tactics, especially since I tend to prefer Strategy games over normal RPGs. Why write? Well when I started, there was no effective or good guides out for the game, and the ones I saw were pretty much directly copied from the official strategy guide. I do not like this! Therefore, I decided to write my own in a full attack of the game. It took a lot longer then I expected, especially with the large amount of mini games and side quests. Also, going through a horrible side dungeon about 10 times doesn't help... For those of you who are familiar with my writing, you will know I treat every battle like it is your first reading my guide. This is because not everyone reads my guides beginning to end, and only needs help on one or two battles at a time. I also like using open ended terms to allow players to develop their own strategy for gameplay rather then having someone else play the game for them. For those of you who have never played a strategy game before, Suikoden Tactics is easy enough (well, easy in strategy game terms) that you should be able to fall in quickly. Do not expect it to be as intense as Final Fantasy Tactics, that many people claimed was far too difficult, but I had a blast with.@@; ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ -~- Basics -~- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Suikoden Tactics is a strategy RPG. How is a strategy RPG different then a normal RPG? The battles are slower paced, and usually more difficult. You will be required to plan your thoughts and actions carefully each round to prevent character deaths. Strategy RPG's usually tend to be incredibly deep, in their own way. If you have never played a strategy RPG, then this is a nice place to start. The game is not as difficult as some Strategy RPGs (S-RPG they are usually known as) and is not as rediculously complex as some of the NIS America titles, which are popular strategy games. One major thing to note in this game is that you can not just walk into a town. As in most S-RPG's, you can not control your character as he/she walks through towns or dungeons. Rather, you can only control them throughout the battles, in a certain area where you can buy weapons and armor, or upgrade your party through a menu. Its a strategy game, not a game based off exploration! ================================================= The Flow of Battle ================================================= At the top of the screen, there is a small list of characters that shows which order the battles action is going to take. If the order is something like... Ally A, Ally B, Enemy A, Enemy B, Ally C, Enemy C Then Ally A acts first, followed by Ally B. Then Enemy A will have his turn, and Enemy B. You have no control over enemy actions on your characters. After Enemy B Acts, it is Ally C's turn, and then Enemy C's turn. Depending on their actions, and the characters speed, certain characters may have quite a bit more turns then others. In this example, Ally A seems to be the fastest character and Enemy C the slowest, but it may not always remain in that same pattern, unchanging over and over again. ------------- Every character, enemy and ally, has HP (Hit Points). Hit Points are a characters Life, and when a character loses all of his or her Hit Points he or she will die, or be forced to withdraw from battle. Some characters will permanently die when they lose all of their HP (it goes to 0) and you will never be able to use them again. How does a character lose HP? If there are two characters fighting one another, let us say, Kyril and Yellow Dragon. Kyril has 60 HP total and the Yellow Dragon has 100. Kyril: 60/60 Yellow Dragon: 100/100 Now, if there are only two characters in battle, then the battle flow on the top of the screen would appear something like this (changable depending on actions and speed): Kyril, Yellow Dragon, Kyril, Yellow Dragon, Kyril, Yellow Dragon If Kyril acts first, and attacks the Yellow Dragon, and his attack hits for 20 damage, the battle would look like this. Kyril: 60/60 Yellow Dragon: 80/100 It is the Yellow Dragon's turn now. The Yellow Dragon is a big buff monster who specializes in physical attacks, and therefore can cause a large amount of hurt to Kyril from just a normal attack. The Yellow Dragon hits Kyril for 30 damage, effectively halving his HP. Luckily, Kyril has an innate skill called Counterattack. Counterattack allows Kyril to counter any normal physical attack on him. Kyril hits the Yellow Dragon back for 20 more damage. Kyril: 30/60 Yellow Dragon: 60/100 Kyril has one more physical attack on the Yellow Dragon, bringing his HP down to 40, but the Yellow Dragon kills Kyril on the next round, causing him to Withdraw. -------------- How do you make it easier to win the above battle? Better equipment makes it easier to win battles in any case, as does elemental effects (we'll talk about that later). If Kyril (thats you) resets the game in frustrtation from losing the battle with the Yellow Dragon, and went to the nearest shop and bought some nice expensive gear and Honed his weapon at the Blacksmiths shop (therefore making his weapon stronger) we will be more than a match in the same encounter with the Dragon. Kyril: 60/60 Yellow Dragon: 100/100 We are working with the same battle flow as last time. Kyril because of his higher speed gets the first attack. His weapon, being Honed by the Blacksmith, is now quite a bit more powerful then it was previously, and does 40 damage a hit over 20. Kyril: 60/60 Yellow Dragon: 60/100 The Yellow Dragon now gets a turn. But because Kyril spent thousands of dollars worth of Potch on nice, new armor, his defense was raised significantly, therefore reducing the total damage he recieves to around 20. Kyril still has his Counterattack ability, and counters the dragon for another 30 damage. Kyril: 40/60 Yellow Dragon: 30/100 With Kyrils final attack, he deals the final blow for 30 damage on the Yellow Dragon, finally ending the battle in your victory. This is the flow of battle at its very simplest. There are many things that influence the flow of battle, which I will explain. But as I also explained, make sure you always have the best weapons and armor possible at any time! ================================================= Basic Commands ================================================= There are many commands in battle of Suikoden Tactics. This section goes over them, and what they mean. Move: Moves the character. Attack: Physically attack with the character. Rune: Use the magic or special abilities equipped on character. Item: Use items equipped to character. Status: See the status of the character. Can be used even when it is not the seleced characters turn. Stand By: End the current characters turn. You will need to master all of these to become effective at Suikoden Tactics. ================================================= Moving and Attack Advantage ================================================= Other then weapons and armor, there are many things that affect the damage you do to the enemies. This section goes over the basics. ----------------------------- Moving is something everyone must learn before going on to anything more advanced, even attacking, in Suikoden Tactics. A character who remains standing there will be unable to attack an enemy unless it comes within one step of them from his own actions. A character can "Move" by selecting the command from the menu that pops up. After doing this, a new screen appears that has darkened and lightened blocks around your character. The lightened blocks are blocks that your character can move to, and darkened blocks are out of the characters move range. A few things to note about moving: The distance a character can move is determined by his or her move stat. The higher this stat is, the more blocks that he or she can move. There is also a skill that effects moving. A character can never move to where another character is standing. Try to avoind keeping your characters in clumps, as then enemy magic or area attacks will hit multiple characters, and you never want that. Moving also goes far deeper then this ... ----------------------------- Attack Advantage is where Moving truly comes into play. Other then avoiding damage, moving can help you deal out more damage as well. See how every character and enemy in the game has four sides to them (front, back, left, right)? Your attacks from the front will always do normal or less then normal damage to the enemy you are targeting. But if you "Move" around the the back or side of the enemy, you will do more damage then you normally would to the foe, and, if the enemy can counter you, there is less chance of the counterattack happening. Doing more damage to a foe from behind or to the side is called having an Attack Advantage. Enemies will try to take the Attack Advantage on you as well at any chance they get. You should try to, but also remember to avoid it if it puts your characters in danger. The key lesson to learn in a strategy game: A good defense is key to winning. If you can, try to protect your flank by pressing it against a wall, or to the water, or even to a chasm (in some cases). This will help you reduce the damage that can be done in total to your party. When there are no choices like that, you are forced to rely on Elemental Terrain (see the appropriate section). ================================================= Stats ================================================= Every character has all sorts of crazy stats. What do all of these numbers mean? How do they come into play in battle? Look no further then this section. ----------- Health Points (HP): The amount of Health your character has. AKA: The amount of damage your character can take before dying. You want to keep this from 0 at all costs. What happens when it reaches 0? See the Withdrawl and Death section for more information. Magic Points (MP): There are 4 levels of MP on all characters. MP is used for casing Magic or using abilities. Innate Element: Every character is bound to an element. There are 5 elements, Fire, Water, Earth, Wind, and Lightning. The characters innate element determines what terrains a character is damaged or strengthened on, as well as what type of magic or skills the particular character uses best. This is very important. Attack: Physical attack power. This is the total of Strength+Weapon Power (if your base strength is 15 and your weapon power is 45 then your attack would be 60). Defense: Total physical defense power. This is the total PDF (Physical defense) and the added bonuses from your armor. Move (MOV): The total distance a character can move during each turn of battle. Jump (JMP): The total height a character can jump in the air to reach a new level. Strength (STR): Affects Attack power, or how strong your physical attacks are. Skill (SKL): Effects hit percentage, and critical hit rate. Magic (MAG): The power a character has with Rune Magic. Evasion (EVA): The higher this stat is, the higher a chance the character will evade the physical attack directed to the character. Physical Defense (PDF): Affects Defense power, versus physical attacks only. The higher this stat is, the lower damage you will take from physical attacks. Magic Defense (MDF): The higher this stat is, the lower damage you will take from magical attacks. Speed (SPD): The higher this stat is, the more turns your character will take in battle, and how determines how quickly a character will act or react. Luck (LCK): Determines many things, such as critical hit rate, and may also help evasion. As your character levels up, his stats get higher and higher. Certain characters are obviously meant to do certain jobs, such as be weaker -yet faster- attackers, while others are meant to be slower, -yet stronger- attackers. There are also pure mages (with no physical skill whatsoever) and more balanced mages (with some type of physical skill, though not rivaling the power of a normal attacker). You can not really direct a characters growth, though you can choose the type of characters you like to play with because of the large roster of characters the game gives you. ================================================= Experience and Levelling Up ================================================= Every action you do in Suikoden Tactics gives you a certain amount of experience points. Experience points measure just that, a characters experience in battle. Like most RPGs (and all previous Suikodens) after you reach a certain amount of Experience Points, you will obtain a new level. It takes 1000 EXP total to level up. If you attack an enemy, use an item, or do a special command (such as change Elemental Terrain) you will gain experience. Depending on the level of the enemy (or character) that you are doing the action to, you will get experience. If a level 8 character attacks a level 9 monster, the character will probably get somewhere around 70 Experience points per attack. But if a level 7 character attacks a level 9 monster, that same character will get around 170- 200 experience per attack. This system ensures that characters do not become rediculously overpowered, and it allows you to build up character you did not use that much in the past. When a character reaches 1000 Experience points, they level up. Depending on the characters base stats (the stats the character has when you get the character for the first time) and the characters role in battle, certain stats will rise faster then others. A magical attacker will get more points in their Magic (MAG) stat when they level up then their Strength (STR) stat. A ninja type (Mizuki, Akaghi) will get more points in Speed (SPD) when they level up then a character who is based purely on physical attacks. A character based on physical attacks will ususally get more HP, DEF, and STR when they level up, but will lack in SPD, MP, and MAG. ================================================= Innate Elements and Terrain ================================================= Ah, and now we come to the most fun part of Suikoden Tactics' battle system! Every character (except one...) and enemy in the game is set to a base Innate Element. Innate Elements effect many things, such as what spells a character can cast with power (or weakness) or what enemies a character will take more damage from. Always look at an enemies innate element before setting your characters out to battle. Note: Certain equipment, such as the Thunder God's Garb, can change your innate element. This is only a termorary change, as your element goes back to the base elemental after you remove the item. There are 5 elementals, and each element is weak versus one other element, here is a small list of what is weak to what. Fire is Weak to Water. Water is Weak to Lightning. Lightning is Weak to Earth. Earth is Weak to Wind. Wind is Weak to Fire. Using this information, you can learn what types of attacks to use on enemies at any time. Try to memorize this, as you will use it often. Note that a characters innate element will not give a character any special defense bonuses towards spells or abilities of that element. So if Lightning elemental character gets fried with Thunder Runner, they will take just as much damage as any other character would. Innate Elements only affect damage your characters do, and the Terrain they work the best on. --------------- Terrain will become a -huge- part of how you play Suikoden Tactics. If you learn to exploit Terrain effectively, the game will become much easier, and more fun in the long run. Certain enemies, items, and Runes, can change the color of the ground (floor) of the battlefields. These Enemies (called Elementals), items (Called [Elemental] Force Beads) and Runes ([Elemental] Sword Rune) you need to learn to recognize when you see them. When the color of the ground changes, you know an elemental (or an elemental item) is at work! The color of the ground represents its element. Yellow is Earth. Red is Fire. Blue is Water. Purple is Lightning. Green is Wind. When an element is added to the ground, we call this Elemental Terrain. --------------- Now is when things get tricky. The characters' Innate Element (the element the character was born to) affects the way that a character responds to the Elemental Terrains. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT! ~~~~~~~~ A character standing on their own Elemental Terrain will take less damage per round, and will do more damage with their attacks then they would normally. They also restore a small amount of their maximum HP per round (around 20%). This is called Positive Affinity. But when a character is standing on the Elemental Terrain -Opposite- of their innate element, the character will take more damage per round, do less damage with their attacks, and also take damage at the end of each round! This is called Negative Affinity. This works for both enemy and ally units. ~~~~~~~~ In simple terms, you want to have your own characters on their own Elemental Terrain, and you want to force enemies onto Elemental Terrain that opposes their innate element. Elemental Terrain is affected much like innate elements are: Fire is Weakened by Water. Water is Weakend by Lightning. Lightning is Weakened by Earth. Earth is Weakened by Wind. Wind is Weakened by Fire. By using Elemental Terrains effectively, you can lower the total amount of damage done to your party to reduce deaths, or to increase the damage your party does to defeat a particularly powerful foe. This may sound complex at first...but in actual gameplay, after a few battles, you'll eventually understand it. It is a fun system, but enemies will manipulate it just as much as you will. ================================================= Talking and Good Will ================================================= There is an odd little command in Suikoden Tactics called "Talk". Some people may pass this command off as useless, but when you really get down to it, it is very helpful to use it in almost any situation. You need to be within one square of another character to "Talk" to them. Important: Not every character can talk to any other character. Usually, it is only characters who know each other or have a bond with each other (such as family) or characters who have similar fighting styles. Characters such as Andarc and Seneca can "Talk", as can Kyril and Andarc, and Seneca and Kyril. There are many other combinations as well. When you select "Talk" from the menu, a short bit of dialogue text appears on the screen between the two characters who spend the round "Talking". After this text, usually a message appears says "Good Will rose!". This is what you want. What is Good Will? Good Will affects a number of things. Every once in a while in battle, when your characters are standing next to (or close) to each other, they will have certain friendly actions towards characters with high Good Will with them. The main is called 'Protect!'. When a character 'Protect!'s another character, he or she shields him/her from damage of the attack, taking it (partially) for themselves. The damage is reduced from what it normally is. 'Protect!' is an extremely useful tool to have when one characters Health is in the critical range, when you need to save them from damage. Good Will also gives you something called 'Assist!'. 'Assist!' allows two characters to pair up for one physical attack on the same foe. Obviously, both characters need to be close together, and within attacking range of the same opponent. 'Assist!' allows you to do more damage then you normally would with a physical attack, without any extra cost. Very nice, but it is hard to get it to activate at times. Characters with high Good Will (only certain characters) can also learn Co-Op (Cooperative) attacks. These attacks are usually very powerful and hit a large range of enemies. You can only use Co-Op attacks if you are standing in a particular range close to the character. ================================================= Status Effects ================================================= There are two types of status effects, positive and negative. Positive status effects are status effects that help a character, and negative status effects are effects that are detrimental to a character in some way. This section is a short list of positive and negative status effects, and the effects that they have on your characters. ------------------------ Positive Status Effects: ------------------------ The status effect -Berserk- greatly raises the physical attack power of an ally. The status effect -Mind Focus- is the magical version of berserk, greatly increasing the magical attack power of an ally. The status effect -Attack Up- raises an allies physical attack power. The status effect -Dodge Up- raises an allies ability to dodge attacks. The status effect -Accuracy Up- raises physical accuracy, allowing you to hit enemies with your attacks more often. The status effect -PDF Up- raises physical defense, causing a character to take less damage from physical attacks. The status effect -MDF Up- raises magical defense, causing a character to take less damage from magical attacks. The status effect -Magic Sword- signifies that the Magic Sword Rune is in use. See Rune section for more details. The status effect -Increased Power- raised attack power for one turn. If you do not attack the next turn, the boost in attack power will be lost. The status effect -Skill/Magic Immunity- gives you immunity to skills or magic (makes you invulnerable to them). ------------------------ Negative Status Effects: ------------------------ The status effect -Shadow Weave- stops a character from moving. The status effect -Unbalanced- stops a character from being able to Counter, Dodge, or Guard any incoming attacks until their next turn. The status effect -Stunned- stops a character from doing anything for a set time period. The status effect -Poison- causes a character to take damage at the end of their turn. The status effect -Sleep- stops a character from doing anything at all. You can wake a character with a physical attack. The status effect -Silence- stops a character from using Runes or Rune Magic. The status effect -Bad Mood- stops characters from talking to each other, or being able to do Co-Op attacks. The status effect -Bucket- lowers a characters physical attack accuracy. The status effect -Balloon- is usless on its own. But when there are multiple Balloons is when it becomes dangerous. With 2 Balloons, your jump is raised by an extra point, and with 3 Balloons, the character makes a forced withdrawl from battle. The status effect -Savage Sprout- traps a character, making them unable to act until the monster is defeated. ================================================= Mounts ================================================= What is a Mount? There are two types of Mounts in this game, Giant Owls and kangacorns. Mounts raise and decrease certain stats, as well as effect your battle performance significantly. Kangacorns can only walk around levels, but they have a huge Move Range. Owls can Fly around levels, therefore any levels with upper and lower portion mean nothing to them, and they can just jump over things. owls also have the ability to Fly over Midair. In Midair, the only attacks that will hit the Giant Owls are Bows and Magic. So as long as you stay far away from these type of characters, you will be invulnerable. One -BIG- note: Giant Owls take party members off the ground, so any earth elemental magic attacks (such as Earthquake) will not hit them when on an Owl. This alone makes Owls worth using. ------------------------ Kangacorn: ------------------------ A Kangacorn raises your move dramatically. They also either raise your physical defense, or your evasion. They may also raise your speed, depending on which Kangacorn you're using. ------------------------ Giant Owl: ------------------------ Giant Owls raise your evasion considerably. You will not be hit 70% of the time when on an owl. Owls are immune to ground attacks, and can fly over any decently sized obsticle. Also, owls can fly over Midair, making them immune to certain types of attacks. ---------------------------------------- What are the Downsides to using a Mount? ---------------------------------------- Well, if you notice all those special abilities, if every character used a mount your party would be overpowered, right? WRONG. Usually, your characters actually -lose- power while mounted. Skills such as Battle Lust, Critical Hit, Guard, or Armor Defense (among many more) do not activate while riding Mounts. Therefore, an attacking character on a Mount loses at least 2 attacks! ------------------------------ Who Should I Use a Mount With? ------------------------------ This is the big question. I like only using mounts with Archers. Giant Owls and Archers just scream perfect fit with each other. Since Archers are normally fragile, adding to their evasion score helps considerably, as does their move range. You also gain the ability to hit targets farther off. If you're using a Kangacorn, I suggest only using one character with it. This character should be a high defense character that is prepared to be a damage tank. The Kangacorn rider will be on the front lines at all times and needs this defense. ================================================= Withdrawl and Death ================================================= When a characters' Health Points (HP) goes down to 0 (and it will, multiple time), two things happen. Either the character Withdraws from battle, or the character dies. When a character Withdraws from battle, he or she is basically running away so that they can fight another day. But when a character dies...they are permanently dead. There is no way to revive a character that is Dead. How do you know if a character is withdrawing or dead? When a characters HP goes to 0 in battle, a small bit of text is on the bottom of the screen. If the character says he or she is withdawing, then the character is withdrawing. You will know a character has died if there is a message saying "[Character] has died." If your character permanently dies, then you have two choices: Accept it, and go on with the game (you never used that character anyway) or two reload your last save and try to win the last battle without the character dying. ------------------------- Some characters have an immunity to permanent death. These characters (usually characters who have a direct effect on the story) can be killed off as many times as you want in battle and never permanently die. Here is a list of these characters: Walter Kyril Andarc Seneca Kika Flare Akaghi Mizuki Corselia Simeon Frederica Coop Busk Lino En Kouldes [Hero] Lalacle Every other character other then the ones on this list can suffer from permanent deaths. ================================================= Rank S ================================================= Ah, the elusive Rank S. People who are determines to get everything in the game will want to get Rank S in every battle, but that is exceedingly difficult. Here are some tips to help. Rank S is achieved through a few factors. ------------------------- Turn Count ------------------------- Quite obviously, the lower the amount of the turns, the better. Treasure hunting is out if you want a high rank. ------------------------- Damage Recieved: ------------------------- This is a hard one. The less damage recieeved the better. To make this easier, take down the most dangerous foes in battle first, and always stay on your own elemental terrain while keeping enemies off theirs. -------------------------- Average Damage Dealt: -------------------------- Its not -total- damage dealt, its AVERAGE damage dealt. You want to do as much damage as you can with the attacks that you have. Using high powered Runes helps a lot in this, Attack Advantage, and elemental terrain will raise average damage done. -------------------------- Elemental Terrain: -------------------------- Every time you finish a turn with a character on elemental terrain, you get a 'point' towards your ranking. But don't think standing on your terrain clicking "End Turn" over and over will help your rank, because it will not, remember the "Turn Count" effects your total ranking as well. -------------------------- Experience Earned: -------------------------- Ah, this is the biggie. You might think that with all of these, its better to become extremely powerful to try and finish a battle, but it is not. You actually need to earn experience, and a lot of it, to get a high rank in battle. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ -~- FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) -~- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ These are questions that I believe will be asked of me, or I have seen asked quite often around for this game (or strategy games in general). Try looking in this section before the main walkthrough for answers. ==================================== Question: I am a fan of the Suikoden series, but not strategy games. Should I try Suikoden Tactics? Answer: Suikoden Tactics has a lot in common with the Suikoden games, but, in the end, its gameplay is completely like a S-RPG rather then a normal RPG. The story of the game is meant to flesh out Suikoden IV's (as there are many, many characters from Suikoden IV in Suikoden Tactics), so if you felt like you were ripped off by Suikoden IV you might like the story of this game. Other then the story (and the massive amounts of characters) that is where the games similarites end to Suikoden. This game, as all strategy games, will end up being a lot harder then a normal RPG. Fortunately, it is a good place to start your S-RPG library as it is not as insanely complex as other titles in the genre, such as Disgaea or Phantom Brave. If you have any love for Suikoden at all, I suggest giving the game at least a rent. ==================================== Question: How do I change a characters' Innate Element? Answer: You don't. The -only- way to change an Innate Element is through certain items in the game, and those items are few and far between. One character in the game has an innate element that changes by what day of the week it is in-game, which is nice. ==================================== Question: I'm having trouble with [Insert Battle Here]. Can you help me? Answer: That is what the Walkthrough is for! Look for the battle in the Walkthrough and you'll find my strategy there. If you are still having trouble after reading that, send me an Email and I'll try to help. ==================================== Question: What do I get for loading my Suikoden IV data at the start of the game? Answer: You get some secret characters, as well as some lines of text changed throughout the story. ==================================== Question: What does Pat. and Klk. in your guide mean? Answer: Those are abbreviations used by the game. Pat. means Patriarchal (they only explain this once or twice throughout the game) and Klk. stands for Kooluk. These are types of soldiers. ==================================== Question: Why isn't Kyril able to kill certain monsters? Answer: Certain monsters effect Kyril emotionally (from an event in his youth). These monsters, Fishmen, can not be killed by Kyril. Kyril can attack them, but no matter how strong his attacks are, he will never be able to land the killing blow. There is usually a little text bauble that says "I just can't do it..." in times like these. ==================================== Question: What characters are good? What characters do you like using? Answer: Well, thats hard. There are so many good characters that its difficult to pick just a base 6-8 that I use in the story battles. I would have to say Kyril, Seneca, Jeane, Flare, Sigurd, Kika, Frederica, and Corselia. Mitsuba and Mizuki are not far behind. ==================================== Question: Can I load my Suikoden IV new Game+ Data or Clear Data and will it still count as having all 108 Stars? Answer: NO. You need to have saved the game after having all 108 Stars, which is usually before taking on Cray. This is the ONLY save that will work. Clear game saves or New Game+ (even with a previous 108 characters in your last game) do not work, sorry. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ -~- Walkthrough -~- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This is the main Walkthrough for Suikoden Tactics, if you are having trouble with a specific battle in the game, you should look no further then here. I will try to stick with using 'normal' game terms rather then going elaborate into strategy terms. --------------------------------------- At the very start of Suikoden Tactics, you are given the open of loading Suikoden IV (4) save data. If you have completed Suikoden IV, with all 108 Stars of Destiny, then this data is loadable, and you will be able to obtain a secret character. After a few scenes, the game begins. You are automatically thrust into your first battle, which is meant to be more of a tutorial then anything. --------------------------------------- ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~ ~~~ Chapter 1: Long Ago in Razril ~~~ ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~ ========================================================== Battle 1: Back Streets of Razril Victory Conditions: Defeat one Furball Defeat Conditions: Lose all friendly units ========================================================== Enemy Information: --------------------------------- Furball (Level 2) HP: ~23 --------------------------------- In this battle you have control of two units: The Noble Boy and the Local Youth. In the tutorial battle, you need only defeat one Furball. Because the Furballs had the first atack on you, they will move forward a few squares, but not all the way, you should do the same. Try to avoid moving into the Furball's atack range on this first round, as on the second round the Furballs will get a free few attacks on you. On your next round, you need to attack a Furball. You only need to attack one to finish the battle, so you have two choices: to attack one with both characters and finish the battle quickly, or to attack both and get more experience from the battle. Whichever you choose, the goal is always to try to get behind or to the sides of the enemy, where you see a Sweatdrop (the little blue drop over the monsters head) come over the monsters head, giving you the advantage in the attack. This short tutorial will be over quickly. ========================================================== Battle 2: Back Streets of Razril, Part II Victory Conditions: Defeat all enemy units Defeat Conditions: Lose all friendly units ========================================================== Enemy Information: --------------------------------- Furball (Level 1) HP: ~18 Furball (Level 2) HP: ~25 Furball (Level 4) HP: ~38 Wind Elemental (Level 4) HP: ~40 --------------------------------- This battle will be much more of a true battle then your first battle was. The 'Noble Boy' has been changed to Snowe, and you now have access to Walter, Kyril, Seneca, and Andarc. The first thing you should notice is the Wind Elemental. This is not a monster that attacks you, but every time he moves adds an elemental attribute to the terrain. If a character of that particular elemental steps on that terrain, the character becomes stronger offensively and defensively. The character will also regain health at the end of each round. Note that if the character stands on the elemental opposite of their base, the opposite is true, and their attacks will weaken (see the ELements and Elemental Terrain section in the basics for more details). At the moment, Seneca and Local Boy should be your only characters that are Wind elemental. You should leave the Wind Elemental for last, since he will not attack you, and he strengthens the atacks of two of your characters. The Furball's to the western of the screen are lower level (mostly level 1 and 2) usually, so have your weaker, lower levelled characters atack them. Walter should head east and go after the higher levelled Level 4 Furball. Also note that Walter has a M. Earth Sword Rune to play around with if you so desire. Seneca is a ranged attacker and can atack from far away, so try to have her stay on the Wind Elementals path and attack from a distance. Also, be sure to take advantage of Andarc's Lightning Rune and use its area attack (Thunder Runner) when the Furballs are bunched up. Lastly, Kyril has the powerful Swallow Rune, and his Flying Swallow Slash does 3x normal damage to an enemy, and an area attack that does half damage to any enmies in range. These attacks can only be used once, so use them wisely! The main threat the Furballs pose is when the Wind Elemental Furballs start using the terrain to their own advantage. When they start stepping on the wind elemental landscaping that the Wind Elemental created, their attack power is very dangerous, and you need to attempt to kill them off quickly before they kill you. Therefore, try to kill off all of the wind elemental Furballs before going after the Earth elemental ones. Sometimes this is not possible, but it will help reduce damage in the long run. After all of the Furballs are gone, focus on the Elemental. With everyone atacking a single enemy, it should fall with no trouble. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~ ~~~ Chapter 2: A Chance Encounter at Sea ~~~ ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~ At this point, you gain access to a Caravan. As you witnessed in the last scene, Snowe and the Local Youth have left your party and you only have Kyril, Walter, Seneca, and Andarc. Kyril's skills are at maximum at the moment, and Walter is fine as he is (his abilities cost a huge amount to level up) so I suggest starting to level Andarc's and Seneca's skills. Andarc, being a Lightning elemental mage, should most definitely have the Lightning Magic skill, and you should spend quite a few points levelling it up (though you can not get anything past rank D at the moment). Concentration or Guard are some other skills for Andarc. If you plan on having Andarc using any other magic later on, focus on Fire or Wind, since Water skills cost more on a Lightning elemental character. Seneca has two skills learned that you can level up, and Bull's Eye is a nice skill for her last slot. Ranged attackers should not be hit as often, so they do not need as much defense. After fixing up your skills, you might want to save your game. If you select "Rest", a scene will play. When you're ready to go on with the game, you automatically enter Middleport. ============================================================================== Middleport ============================================================================== Shops: Outfitter, Runes, Blacksmith, Quest Guild Blacksmith Hones to Level 2. Hone your weapons to level 2 on all of your characters for 300 Potch each. Note that Walter's weapon is already at level 2. You will more then likely have some money left after Honing your weapons, so spend it at the Rune Shop or the Armor shop. A Rage Sword Rune is good for Kyril for changing the elemental terrain to his advantage in batle (it has an effect much like that of a Fire Elemental monster). This rune will help in the situations to come, as well as in the future. Rememeber that you have to Attach Runes before you can use them in battle. Also remember when buying runes, that characters use elemental Runes with greater skill when they match their base element. In the armor shop, the Guard Robe is nice, if you can find it (just keep exiting and entering the shop, but it can be annoying). Leather Armor for Kyril and Seneca is expensive for only 3 defense, but if you are a perfectionist you might want to get this as well. When you're ready to continue, use the Gossip command and talk to everyone. When you speak with the Merchant(?) a scene plays. After the scene, head back to the Caravan, save, and choose to Depart. ========================================================== Battle 3: Middleport Coast Victory Conditions: Defeat Sigurd Defeat Conditions: Lose all friendly units ========================================================== -------------------------------- S Rank Bonus: Ship's Figurehead -------------------------------- Enemy Information: Items: --------------------------------- --------------------------------- Pirate - Spear (Level 2) HP: ~26 Crates: Random items Pirate - Axe (Level 2) HP: ~26 Chest 1: Mega Medicine x3 Pirate - Bow (Level 3) HP: ~29 Chest 2: Wind Force Bead x2 Mercenary - Red(Level 3) HP: ~36 --------------------------------- Mercenary - Blue(Level 3)HP: ~36 Sigurd HP: 43 --------------------------------- Ally Information: --------------------------------- Drunken Pirate (Level 3) HP: ~35 Rowdy Pirate (Level 3) HP: ~35 Jolly Pirate (Level 3) HP: ~35 --------------------------------- While the primary goal of this battle is to defeat Sigurd, you also have a lot of enemies other then him to take down. Also, you will see the first Chests and Crates in this battle. When you attack crates, they break revealing free items for you. This is a nice way to get items, especially at this point of the game. There are also two chests, one by Sigurd, and one on the far western end of your ship. The chest on your ship is Chest 1, and it contains a Mega Medicinex3. Note that whichever character you send over to open it for you may be out of the battle for a few rounds because the chest is quite out of the way. Hervey, your new controllable Pirate friend is a level 4 Fire Innate. He is also in the best location to go get that treasure chest from the start. Also, if Seneca "Talks" to Andarc at the very start of this battle, you can learn the "Cohort attack", a Co-Op attack which uses Andarc and Seneca. Lastly, be sure to break the crates at the start before getting too far along in the battle. The most annoying enemies in the level are the Pirate - Bow. These enemies will stay just out of your attack reach and snipe at you from afar. If you can, try to take them out first to avoid being slowly picked off from a distance. Also, do not be afraid when your pirate allies die off quickly, they are quite a bit weaker then you and your allies are, and take far more damage. When going on a full on attack, try to keep Walter or Kyril in the front lines because they will parry most attacks, causing the enemies to become unbalanced. Keeping Seneca and Andarc in the back is natural, as Seneca is a ranged attacker and Andarc is a magic user. Hervey is meant to be used as an attacker as well, but his stats are not quite up as high as Walter or Kyril's. Sigurd remains in place for the entire battle until he is attacked personally. He keeps setting an Elemental Terrain to lower the status of your characters, and raise his own. The best way to get around this is to set your own to lower his defense. Because Sigurd is a Water Innate, the Rage Sword Rune will lower his defense and cause him to lose HP after each round. Whenever Sigurd runs out of the Fire Elemental Terrain, and onto his water elemental ground, his attacks will more then likely one-hit your characters, even at full HP. It is imperative to try and keep him in one place at the entire time, or at least keep him from his own elemental terrain (Water) so that his attacks are not strengthened. Andarc's Lightning attacks are a nice way to keep Sigurd from his own elemental terrains. But be careful when changing the grounds, you do not want to hurt or weaken your own characters! ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~ ~~~ Chapter 3: The Final Showdown with Steele ~~~ ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~ You have access to the Caravan before you go on in the game. Note: You obtain medals after every battle. Gold Medals, while look pretty, give the least stats. They all raise the defense of a character, but Gold Medals raise the HP of a character by 5, Silver by 10, and Bronze by 15. These items must be equipped to characters for you to recieve their effects. When you're ready, head into the Nest of Pirates. ========================================================== Battle 4: The Night Sea Victory Conditions: Get a Friendly Unit next to the Rune Cannon Defeat Conditions: Withdraw with Walter ========================================================== Enemy Information: --------------------------------- Pirate - Spear (Level 3) HP: ~33 Pirate - Axe (Level 3) HP: ~35 Pirate - Bow (Level 3) HP: ~29 --------------------------------- Ally Information: --------------------------------- Rowdy Pirate (Level 3) HP: ~35 Jolly Pirate (Level 3) HP: ~35 --------------------------------- The Rune Cannon, which is your main goal, is the item that is surrounded by red blocks to the northeast of your starting deployment positions. In this battle, Brandeau, Edgar, and a random pirate NPC named Peck joins your party. You still have two of the three pirate allies you had previously in this battle. Also, do not let Walter die in this battle, as that is the Defeat Condition, and the game will end. Most of the enemies in the battle are Pirate - Axe's. Fortunately, there is only one Pirate - Bow to worry about, and he is at the very very back, and until you go full charge at the Rune Cannon, then he will not be able to reach you on the first round. Brandeau and Edgar are quite strong characters, at level 5 and with over 50 HP each. They can go full on attacking and not take too much damage from enemies. Also, if they atack an enemy from the right angle (behind or from the side) they should be able to kill it in one hit. You do not really have to kill all enemies in thia battle, but killing two or three helps. You just want one character to end a turn at the Rune Cannon. This should only take two-thre rounds depending on your strategy. Depending on how much EXP you need (or in how much of a rush you are in) you can kill all of the enemies, or you can just full on to the Rune Cannon. ========================================================== Battle 5: The Night Sea, Part II Victory Conditions: Defeat Steele, or all other enemy units Defeat Conditions: Withdraw with Kyril or Peck, Or Lose all Friendly Units ========================================================== -------------------------------- S Rank Bonus: Steele's Shield -------------------------------- Enemy Information: --------------------------------- Pirate - Spear (Level 3) HP: ~33 Pirate - Axe (Level 3) HP: ~35 Pirate - Bow (Level 3) HP: ~29 Fishman (Level 3) HP: ~49 Steele (Level 6) HP: 76 --------------------------------- Ally Information: --------------------------------- Rowdy Pirate (Level 3) HP: ~35 Jolly Pirate (Level 3) HP: ~35 --------------------------------- Because of the previous events, Kyril is unable to act to protect himself. Someone needs to stay behind to protect him (Andarc, since he is right there at the start is a nice choice) for the rounds of battle. You really -need- to have someone on guard duty for Kyril. Your two Pirate NPCs remain in the battle, but Walter will not be returning. You only have control of 3 Units at the start of the battle. Since the battle ends if Peck or Kyril fails, you need to make sure the enemies stay away from them at all costs. Because of this, Brandeau and Edgar are going to be your damage tanks and are going to try to take down and hold off every enemy for a time. You might want to have them run up to all of the enemies right at the start of the battle to draw their attention away from Peck, who is right at the forefront of battle. There are two ways to win the battle. One is to destroy Steele, which is probably the more difficult of the challenges. The other is to destroy everyone -but- Steele. There is another enemy that comes up onto the back of the ship late in the battle that counts as one of those enemies to defeat, and you can not win the battle until this one is defeated. The easiest way to defeat the monster with one character is to use Andarc, and on the first turn cast Lightning Force (from his Lightning Rune) on himself and the area around him. Then on his next round, cast the powered up Thunder Runner. If you want to try to take on Steele, you need to be prepared for one blast of the Rune of Punishment. This attack will do around 40 damage to a character, or more. Fortunately, Steele can only use it once. He does not take a huge amount of damage, but Andarc's Lightning Force will weaken him. However you choose to win the battle, remember that Puck and Kyril need to be kept alive at all costs. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~ ~~~ Chapter 4: Three Years Later... ~~~ ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~ Now a handsome young man, Kyril has lost many of his former abilities. He continues travelling with Seneca and Andarc though, and they continue to be valued companions on his quest. Kyril's Skills (Counterattack and Parry) which were once skill level S have been reset to skill level E, so you might want to spend some points levelling them back up a bit, but they still can not go higher then D at the moment. Also, you can now equip a last skill for Kyril. I suggest Battle Lust or Critical Hit. Buy a few Fur Capes for your characters (when you find them) and buy a Thunder God's Garb for Seneca. Other then this, there is not a whole lot of new things to buy in Razril. Though, if you could not afford some things in Middleport previously you might want to try and buy them here. If you have yet to experiment with terrain effects a lot, I highly suggest buying a few Runes to do such. Note: The Thunder God's Garb is a strange item. Though it has high defense, it will also change Seneca's (or whoever it is equipped to at the moment) innate element from Wind to Lightning. This is one of the only ways to chance your element in the entire game. There is no interesting Gossip lately, so head into the Back Streets. ========================================================== Battle 6: Back Streets of Razril, Part III Victory Conditions: Defeat all enemy units Defeat Conditions: Lose all friendly units ========================================================== -------------------------------- S Rank Bonus: Razril Knight Token -------------------------------- Enemy Information: Items: --------------------------------------- --------------------------------- Furball (Level 6) HP: ~50 Chest 1: Guard Robe Furball (Level 7) HP: ~56 --------------------------------- Fire Elemental (Level 6) HP: ~55 Lightning Elemental (Level 6) HP: ~55 --------------------------------------- It is the return of elementals! Seneca is once again not in this battle. Fortunately, there are only three base Furball's, and the two elementals in the battle match your innnte elements so you can use them your advantage. Remember not to attack the elementals, as they are actually helpful monsters. Also remember to use the Talk Command to boost Good Will between characters whenever you have the time. The key to easily winning the battle is using terrain elementals to your advantage. Remember to have Andarc stand on the Lightning element, and having Kyril standing on the Fire elemental terrain. Wherever the elemental walks, the terrain changes, so do not try to impede their pathways. Unfortunately, Fire elemental starts off rather distant, so it will be somewhat difficult for Kyril to stand on his own base elemental pathway while attacking the normal enemies. After defeating the initial 3 Furballs (and probably gaining some levels) 3 more Furballs appear at the far eastern side of the screen. These ones are level 7, and one of them is Fire elemental, meaning it can take advantage of the elemental floors just as well as Kyril can. This one will probably be the most difficult to kill, and you might want to try and change as much of the terrain as possible to Lightning for the battle (that means killing off the Fire Elemental). Something to note is that you should not worry about the chest until after every Furball is destroyed. The elementals still count as enemies, even though they do not attack you, and thus the battle will not end until both of them are defeated. Get the chest when you are safe from damage and there are no Furballs left. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~ ~~~ Chapter 5: What Lies Beneath the Surface ~~~ ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~ ============================================================================== Middleport ============================================================================== Shops: Outfitter, Runes, Blacksmith, Quest Guild Characters: Rita, Lalacle (New Game+) -See Shop Inventories at Previous visit in Chapter 2.- Your first encounter with the World Map comes before entering Middleport again. Note: Lalacle will join you at this point, but ONLY if you have previously beaten the game. There is a new function in Middleport, Lalacle's Guild Shop. Guild Quests are short little quests or missions that require you to survive various missions to earn different items or Potch. We can recruit our first character in Middleport! Like all Suikoden games, Suikoden Tactics has a large slew of characters to recruit and use in battle. To recruit Rita, you need to have 5 Flame Force beads equipped on Kyril, and then head into the Quest Guild. At your current rank (and with the characters you currently have) the only quest you can take is "Game On!". Select "Game On!" and accept the quest. You will need to go back to Razril Back Streets for this quest. ---------------------------------------------- Quest: Game On! Rita's name has been added to the Gossip list though, so talk to her there. She has aged dramatically from Suikoden IV! After she explains the rules to you (you need to end up with more terrain in your own affinity after 5 rounds, and no attacking each other). The easiest way to win this battle is to use Rage Force Beads or Flame Force Beads from your items inventory. After she goes, change her Lightning beads into your Fire (by placing your target square over hers), or as many of them as you can. The elementals in this battle can turn everything going perfectly into somethat that goes badly. SO annoying! As long as you keep covering Rita's Lightning elemental terrain the battle should be won, though depending on the elementals, it might be close. ---------------------------------------------- After you win the battle, Rita joins the party! You gain access to Seneca once again in this battle, and you can also use Rita if you recruited her. Unfortunately, Rita is at level 1, so you may have some trouble keeping her alive. If you plan on levelling her up, this is a nice level to try and start though. If you look around the screen, there is a huge amount of monsters (over 10) and two Earth elementals. Since you have no Earth elementals in your party, and many of the monsters in the area are earth based, you may want to kill them off before they can change the terrain element to power up the monsters. In fact, I highly suggest it. Also notice the two chests at the far ends of the screen, each well guarded by monsters. You should decide if you are strong enough to take on the foes to obtain the items in the chest. The goal of the battle is to get to the red squared area in the northeastern corner of the large room, but you should not make a Bee-line for it. If you do, you'll have a lot of monsters to deal with at once, and you only want to deal with a few at a time. Move forward small amounts at a time (in the direction of either of the chests) and let the enemies come to you rather then running to them. If you do this, then the Ogre Frogs should stay away from you, and the Bats should come running full on. Taking on 2-3 bats at a time should be quick. After drawing the bats away from the Ogre Frogs, the battle becomes easier. You can open the chests easier at this point (the chest to the east is still guarded by two enemies though, so be careful). Also, the pathway near the Chest 1 is blocked by two Boulders (well...rocks) with 100 HP. Going around these to the north is easier then attacking them directly. After you reach a certain distance towards the objective, more enemies pop into view. Hopefully you spent the time killing every enemy on the screen before this happens. There are more Ogre Frogs this time, and they are quite a bit stronger then the Evil Bats, but do not have as high of move range. Approach this the same way as you did the previous part (taking on only small amounts of monsters at a time rather then making a Bee-line) and you should be able to continue without much problem. Note: You may notice that the Evil Bats are unattackable at times. This is when they are over a chasm. Use Magic or Seneca's arrows to hit them from a distance when this happens. Also, remember that pretty much everyone except for Kyril in this battle will take damage from the earth elemental terrain that the Earth Elements lay down, as well as be weakened by it. If things go bad in this battle, things will go bad fast and hard. After the advice I give, you are still having trouble, you might want to reset, buy some new gear, Runes, and sleep until it is Wind or Lightningday. That might help a bit. Lastly, remember to -try- and use elemental grounds to your advantage and change them with spells or items. This is a somewhat difficult battle, especially if you decide to go get all of the chests and allow the enemies to attack you head on. It is a nice time to practice though. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~ ~~~ Chapter 6: The Evil Eye ~~~ ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~ You have a chance to return to Middleport and the Carvan to save your game and restock your items. These monsters only pop when you open the chests in the level. Like in the Pirate battles in Chapter 2, the Skeleton - Bow will be the most annoying enemies. They like to stay out of your reach and slowly snipe at your party to whittle your health down from a distance, much like what you do with Seneca. Also, you need to worry about both of the level 8 monsters (the strongest monsters in the level) being Fire based and the fire elemental in the distance. Fortunately, the Fire Elemental strengthens Kyril's attacks as well, so it is both a help and a hinderance. Like the previous battle, you start over a bridge from the enemies. Therefore, you can use something of the same trick you used in the last battle by slowly drawing enemies forward. Make sure not to take more then a few steps onto the bridge before all of the initial bats, Skeleton - Sword and the Skeleton - Bow are destroyed, else you might bite off more then you can chew. I highly suggest getting rid of that Skeleton - Bow as quickly as you possibly can, because he is incredibly dangerous. If you can kill him off early on, the Bats and the other low level Skeletons should be easy. Once you have the first set of enemies down, you need to approach the higher level enemies. Before they get to you though, use the chance to set some positive elemental terrain for yourself with spells or items. The boost in attack, defense, and the HP recovery will be invaluable. Kyril should stick on the fire terrain that the Elemental created, or create some of his own. When taking on the second set of enemies, the Skeleton - Bow's stick back, but you want to try and take them down first, and fast. Especially the level 8 one, as it will pick you off in no time at all. Then you will probably want to go after the level 8 Skeleton - Sword, since he is stronger then the others. This is a nice time to use your Co-Ops. If you opt to get the chests before finishing the battle, open one at a time rather then sending two characters at both separately. After each opens, a monster spawns. Seneca is a nice choice for opening a chest singularly since she can attack from a range, and snipe the monster before it reaches her. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~ ~~~ Chapter 7: The Nest of Pirates ~~~ ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~ This is a nice time to send Rita onto some Quests from the Quest Guild. The only ones you'll probably be able to do at this point are "Shop Clerk Wanted" or "The Missing Daughter". When you're ready to continue on, head back (again) into the Secret Underground Path. You're going to have to fight your way to them, but you need to expect not to have any access at all to Kika or Nalleo. Because of this, you are going to have to play defensive. The Wind Elemental in this battle will be your very best friend, so keep both Kika and Nalleo in its trail for the entire battle so that their stats are raised and their HP regenerates aftereach round. The enemies near Kika and Nalleo like to change the terrain a bit, but they do not a high enough MP to do it all the time, and more then once or twice, so you do not need to worry about this too much. The only bad thing about the Wind Elemental being here is that the boss of the level (Roget) is also Wind based and will strengthen him as well as Kika and Nalleo. Other then Kika and Nalleo, you have access to Dario, who is on your side of the screen and will help you take down the first set of baddies. It will take you a few rounds to get to them from the start, and they will have to spend their turns getting to you as well. When you finally engage with the main party, focus on the Spearmen and the Staff-User first. The Staff user is a nasty caster who will do more damage then the others through spells (though he can only do it twice). The Spearmen do more damage then the Swordsmen with their attacks, so they need to be taken down first and quickly. This part of the battle should be surprisingly easy, as long as you take out the most deadly of enemies first, and use terrain elements to your advantage (the enemies cast them like crazy, so can you!) You might even want to use Co-Op attacks to take down this enemy set quickly so that you can reach Kika and Nalleo, if need be. After all of them are destroyed, start heading up the screen some more in preparation. The true battle lies with Kika and Nalleo. It will be very difficult keeping them alive and trying to damage enemies at the same time. Use Kika's Falcon Rune for some extra damage on enemies, and maybe even one hit a few of them. Do not move off the Wind Elementals path, and only attack enemies when they cone on the path, or when they are one step away from the path. Doing so makes the battle far too risky. Make sure you save one of Kikas MP for the Falcon Rune to use on the boss (Roget). Roget will use the same elemental stretegy as you will. Just attack whoever you get a chance to, and do not be picky on whatever you attack, since opportunities do not come often! When taking on the boss Roget, using one slash of the Falcon Rune will take him down to less then 20% health (even if he is on his own element). From there, use Nalleo's physical attacks. If Roget is still alive, continue the assault on the next round with physical attacks and he will die with ease. When you attack Roget, three extra enemies will appear next to the treasure chest. If any characters are over on that side still, you will need to take them down. Hopefully, Kika and Nalleo are surviving on their own at this point, because if they are not, you might want to send one character to them to help them out. Since the goal in this battle is to kill all enemies, you need to get rid of that Water Elemental. This elemental likes to stay in midair over the ocean, so you might need to run around a bit, or have all of your characters Standby until Seneca or Andarc can hit it with ranged attacks. Note: When Nalleo and Kika and finally safe, have Nalleo "Talk" to Dario, and you will learn the Pirate Family Attack, another Co-Op. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~ ~~~ Chapter 8: Obel Palace ~~~ ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~ ============================================================================== Nest of Pirates ============================================================================== Shops: Outfitter, Blacksmith Blacksmith Hones to Level 2. In Middleport, we want to go to the Gossip screen, and talk to Pablo, who was quite knowledgable about Rune Cannons in the past (we spoke to him in the Underground Passage). By speaking to him, he will join your party. Pablo is a low level mage, but at this point he is only your second mage. He is also an Earth Element, and the only Earth Elemental mage in the game. Note the Inn in Middleport, and you'll find a strange man. He wonders where his Rose Crest is. You can do nothing for this for now, so continue on. While you are in Middleport, go to the Quest Guild, and accept the quests "Seeking Treasure Hunting Parters" and "Hand Delivery". You want Chiepoo to prosper, as good things happen later on! When you approach the Coast... ---------------------------------------------- Quest: Seeking Treasure Hunting Partners Rank: E Fee: 100 Potch Reward: 1000 Skill Reward: 500 Deadline: None Client: Rene Quest: Won't you join me for a treasure hunt on the Deserted Island? I'm a treasure hunting pro, but I need someone to deal with the monsters that are lurking about. You can have any treasure I find! You will fail at the battle if you allow Rene to die, so she must not die at any cost! The goal of the battle is to find three pieces of "Prime Gold Ore", and only Rene can do that. You must kill the monsters of the level off so that Rene can hunt for treasure. Unfortunately...Rene is level 1 with 18 HP. She can not atack enemy units, so you need to keep her away from enemies at all costs. This is a pretty nasty battle. Probably all of the Savage Frogs will have over 100 HP, so hopefully you upgraded your weapons when you were in Obel. Avoid using lightning magic on the Frogs, since it will only cause the ground to turn to their terrain, most likely giving them more HP back then what you took down. Also, avoid having your characters standing in a straight line, since the Savage Frogs can use area attacks to slaughter you then. Also, unless you are using a lot of Lightning based characters, it would probably be smart to get rid of that Lightning Elemental quite quickly. That thing is strengthening 95% of the enemies on the level with its terrain effect, and the Savage Frogs are tough enough as it is, without the added damage and defense bonuses. After kiling the elemental, I highly suggest to change the terrain to your own choices, and something that will weaken Lightning, such as Earth. Hopefully, by the time that the Crab reaches your party, most (or all) or the Savage Frogs will be destroyed. The Giant Crab has a huge range AOE (area) attack which will hit all of your members for around 20 points of damage. The Crab is a water elemental, unlike every other enemy on the screen. Try to cast Thunder Runner on him, or change his terrain to Lightning so that you can weaken his defense and take his HP down quickly. Fortunately, he is quite slow. When one character goes too far to the east of the screen, two more Savage Frogs are summoned. before having Rene go over there, make sure your party takes these out, you do not want to have gotten this far only to have Rene killed! Also note that when you head all the way west, two Giant Crabs and two Savage Frogs will spawn, so you need to take them out before sending Rene out. One thing to note is that once Rene has picked up the third piece of Ore, the battle ends, no matter how many enemies are left on the screen. ---------------------------------------------- After you finish the battle, watch a quick scene, and Rene joins your party. Rene can not attack at all when she is permanently in your party, but she is great for finding hidden items on the battlefields. ---------------------------------- ---------------------------------- |Lvl 3: Rene Earth Elemental | | Rene's Skills: Rene's Runes: | |HP: 33/33 MP: 1/1 0/0 0/0 0/0 | |TreasureHunterE Free Slot | |ATK: 4 DEF: 10 MOV: 5 | |None None | |JMP: 2 STR: 4 SKL: 10 | ---------------------------------- |MAG: 4 EVA: 5 PDF: 4 | |MDF: 4 SPD: 4 LUC: 4 | ---------------------------------- Note: Rene's level and stats will change depending on what level she got to in the previous battle. Whats not to love about that? ============================================================================== Other things to do ============================================================================== You have access to finishing almost every (but one) Rank E Quest Guild mission, making more money and getting extra characters. That will open up Rank D missions. While you can start the Rank D missions, you will only be able to finish a few of them. When doing Rank D or higher missions, always look at who the Client is. Chiepoo & Co. (our good buddy on Deserted Island) now has a competitior called X & Co. You want to avoid doing their missions if you want Chiepoo & Co. to succeed as a business. And when Chiepoo & Co. succeeds with your help, good things happen... You can also enter the Ruins of Obel. This is a dungeon where you will probably be anihilated on any floor above level 1 or maybe 2. You can play around a bit though. ============================================================================== Moving On... ============================================================================== ========================================================== Battle 10: El-Eal Victory Conditions: Defeat all enemy units Defeat Conditions: Lose all friendly units ========================================================== Enemy Information: Items: --------------------------------------- --------------------------------- Klk. Spearman (Level 8) HP: ~75 Captain (Level 8) HP: ~80 Busk (Level 10) HP:~115 --------------------------------------- There is something of a new feature added to the Item information. If you recruited Rene, she can Dig for items on this level and obtain new and useful items, on this screen they would happen to be a One-Piece Dress and a Wind Shield. The hard part is that you only have room for 8 Troops, and around 13 enemies. Therefore need to balance things accordingly; Rene may be your downfall if you bring her into battle. The first dig spot is near the starting point for your team, and the second is right below Busk. It is -very- hard to get over there so you need to have every enemy but one dead and have Rene alone go over there by herself and Dig for the Wing Shield. Taking a good look at the enemies on the screen, you will notice a large amount of Bowman (yuck!) which will pose as serious annoyance as ever. There are only two Staff-Users, but they have powerful area spells, so when they advance on you, keep your party members separated to avoid damage. The Spearmen, while slow, are far stronger then the Swordsmen. We also have the Captain and Busk to deal with, two bosses. This is going to take a while ... The first thing you should do is set up a nice fortified defense of Elemental Terrain for your characters. You will need to advance up the screen a bit to get the enmies to come to you, but if you have an already fortified defense, you want this to happen. The other enemies will not advance usually until you take down the Bowman, so you need to be prepared at that point. Be careful of the Wind Innate Staff-Users though, they like to cast sleep on your party members. You need to kill off the first round of enemies quickly, as the second set is coming right for you. But if you have your Terrain set then you should be fine. After defeating the second set, you need to be careful. You will need to move up to get the third set of enemies to atack you, but if you move -too- far forward, then Busk will approach you before the time you want him to and things can become much dirtier then you want them to be. If Busk does approach you, change the Elemental Terrain (Water is nice...) away from Fire at all costs. Even without Fire Elemental Terrain, Busk's attacks will do over 50 damage to a single character, but when powered up it is even worse. Fighting off the many enemies that are probably left along with Busk is very difficult, but I suggest going all out on Busk, since he is by far the most dangerous foe. Runes such as Kika's Falcon Rune, Mizuki's Shrike Rune, or Kyril's Swallow Rune are great ways of tearing through Busks huge defense and not getting countered. You might also want to try and use Co-Ops, if you have the characters in your battle party. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~ ~~~ Chapter 10: The Town of Merseto ~~~ ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~ Finally, a new chapter! At the start of the chapter, Mizuka and Akaghi leave, but it is not permanently. Also note that you are on a new map. This is the Koolouk Empire Map. You can reture at any time to the Island Nations if you head back to Fort El-Eal and select "To the Island Nations". Before we head on with the game, lets head back to Nest of Pirates. Before landing at Nest of Pirates, you need to make a decision. You want to land there on a set of either Fire or Watersday, or Earth or Windsday. If you land on Fire or Watersday, you will obtain the two new characters Hervey and Sigurd. If you land on Earth od Windsday, you will obtain the two new characters Dario and Nalleo. You will be able to come back later and get the other set of characters, but the set you get just means you get to develop them earlier. Which set is better? There are quite a few enemies on screen (15, to be exact) including the three bosses. You also start out surrounded. Oddly enough, some of the ground in this battle is already turned into Elemental Terrain. This is mainly where there is water, and there is a base Water Elemental terrain. This works for, and against you. The enemies near the terrain are not Water Elementals, but there is a whole set of Water Innate enemies to the east of it. That Wind Elemental will also help the enemies more then it will help you, as most of the foes in the battle are Wind Based. While the Thieves are not particularly strong, they are quite fast (Like Ninja type characters) and will attack one after another. Because you start out surrounded, this can be quite bad. Fortunately, you are far enough from the bosses that they will not attack you unless provokes or approached. And it will also take the enmies to the southeast a few rounds to get to you, so you must start with the enemies directly south of you (the ones on the Water Terrain). Do not approach the bosses or any of the enemies to the west until every enemy to the east and southeast is destroyed. This should not take long if your party is strong. Unfortunately, the elemental terrain around the bosses (and the enemies around the bosses) will be changed all around at this point. Well, depending on what characters you are usding it may be fortunate, but you may still need to manipulate it a bit to get certain elemental characters (Water, and Fire mainly) stronger. Now, the goal when heading west is trying to pull the normal enemies while keeping the bosses where they are. This is something of a pain, but it is possible. You want to keep the bosses where they are for as many rounds as you can, so that most of the normal enemies are destroyed before taking them down. When fighting the bosses, the Ill-Tempered Bandit is by far the strongest of the trio, so take him down quickly. If he is on his own terrain he might one- hit your characters. Take down the Shady Man next. The Impatient Man is the least threat of all of the bosses, even though he attacks from a range. Note: After winning this battle, you are able to 'hunt monsters'. Hunting monsters is a good way of levelling up weaker characters to use in battle. Its also a nice way to earn money for items. ============================================================================== Merseto ============================================================================== Blacksmith Hones to level 4. You might want so spend a good deal of time using "Hunt Monsters" to earn some money to buy all of the upgrades available here. Note: The Wing Mail available in Merseto is another one of those rare armors that changes your Innate Element when equipped. Be careful, else everyone will have the same Innate Element if they have this equipped! When you're ready to continue on with the game, select "To the Port" of Merseto. ========================================================== Battle 12: Port Merseto Victory Conditions: Defeat the Merchant Defeat Conditions: Lose all friendly units ========================================================== Enemy Information: Items: --------------------------------------- --------------------------------- Pirate - Bow (Level 9) HP: ~67 Chest 1: Kanacorn Orb Pirate - Bow (Level 10) HP: ~77 Dig Spot 1: Cyclone Orb Pirate - Axe (Level 9) HP: ~80 Dig Spot 2: Silver Chain Mail Pirate - Axe (Level 10) HP: ~90 --------------------------------- Pirate - Spear (Level 9) HP: ~77 Pirate - Spear (Level 10) HP: ~81 Merchant (Level 15) HP:~130 --------------------------------------- For this battle, your group is split into two groups of three, both groups on two sides of the battlfield. Both sides should have someone with healing items (or multiple characters) and the ability to change elemental terrain. Whats worse, is that you are forced to use Andarc, Seneca, and Kyril in one place at the start of this battle, so you are technically only limited to your choice of three characters. I like Flare, Kika, and Sigurd as my other set, but its your game, you play how you want^^. Note: Throughout the battle, you will see boats moving around in the water. These boats can be stepped on or crossed (to reach the other side of the area). If you step on a boat, it will carry you downstream, but it will also separate you from your group, and safety is in groups. Whenever two boats are together, you can cross the river to the other side to help one team or the other if they are having trouble. Unfortunately, two will cross very rarely, so it is unlikely your teams will fully meet up. Kyril's group starts out surrounded by enemies. You need to pick off these first three before the stronger level 10s reach you. The Pirate - Bow is in a very advantageous position for an archer to be in, and it takes a bit to reach him, so go after the Pirate - Spear and the Pirate - Axe first. Hopefully (yes, that is a hopefully) you can get one or two of the level 10s to come at you so you do not have to worry about them later. Note that the Pirate - Bow can only be hit with ranged attacks or spells. The main threat to the second group is the large amount of Pirate - Spears. Of the 6 enemies they need to take down, three of them are Pirate - Spears, and they are the strongest of the set. What I like doing with this party is having two characters of the same Innate element and setting them up with a nice strong Elemental Terrain to strengthen them and weaken the enemies (in my case, Water, and it also weakens the enemies here). Your third character should pick off characters not killed from the other two characters' attacks. This strategy worked very well for me, and none of my characters on this side actually ended up taking damage. Whatever you do, do not simply charge the Merchant. You need to kill off most (if not all) of the Pirates in the area before attacking him. When you attack the Merchant, four more Pirates appear in the battle, prolonging it, and making the Merchant even more dangerous. When both sides' foes have been destroyed, its time to approach the Merchant. When you do this, 4 more Pirates come. Hopefully by this point, your second party has gotten partially to the first party so that they can provide a backup for Kyril. If not, this can get messy. Since the Merchant himself is not particularly powerful, you have a few choices: You can try for the cleaner route of destroying multiple foes (Co-Ops work well) or just go for a full on assault of the Merchant. The problem with atacking the Merchant and ignoring the rest of the foes is the large amount of damage that you will take in the process. The Merchant is Fire Elemental, so use Water Force Beads (or Flowing Sword Orbs) and atack him with attacks such as the Falcon Rune or Swallow Rune. Note: After the battle you obtain your first Kangacorn. This mount is the same type as the one that Busk has during the battle at fort El-Eal. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~ ~~~ Chapter 11: An Old Acquaintance ~~~ ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~ Right after you depart from Merseto, immediately re-enter. They will not be too useful until you switch characters in and out on will, but once you can is when their true use comes out. Ema can use any items in your Caravan (thats not equipped on a character), which is very nice if you want to use her as a healer. Gary's Backup skill gives a nice stat boost to a character. Note that there are all sorts of new Quest Guild Missions to go on now. Some of them you still will be unable to do (such as finishing Dear Friend ...). Once again, you want to avoid doing the quests "Delivery to the Deserted Island", "Fight Fish with Fish!" and "Advertisers Wanted" most of the rest you can do though. When ready to continue with the game, Choose to "Enter El-Eal". ========================================================== Battle 13: El-Eal, Part II Victory Conditions: Defeat all enemy units Defeat Conditions: Lose all friendly units ========================================================== Enemy Information: Items: --------------------------------------- --------------------------------- Pat. Not all characters can use mounts, but those who can are strengthened. Your attack raises 50%, a 10% boost in speed, and you also get 30% extra evasion. One downside of a mount is that you only get to attack once, even with Battle Lust. Also, defensive skills, such as Guard, do not work. There are a lot of foes on this screen. The Fishman are the main enemies, but there are also a few human foes. Of the fishman, you need to get rid of the Blue Fishman first, as they act as healers for the rest of the enemies on the screen. They have a spell that can completely heal an enemy unit (no matter what their HP is). Unless you are positive that you can kill the Orange or Red Fishman in one hit, then kill off the Blue Fishmen first to avoid prolonging the battle. Focus on the groupd directly to the east of you (that has the 4 Red Fishman and the single Orange and Blue). It will take a few rounds for the human enemies on the upper level to reach you, so they are not something to worry about for now. After a few rounds, Mizuki and Akaghi will appear at the far eastern end of the screen. They are actually at the danger end, since there should probably be foes down there whom you have not provoked. Fortunately, the enemies at this level are lower level (only level 8) so if you use Elemental Terrain and Attack Advantage they should fall quickly to both Mizuki and Akaghi's assault. You might want to use the "Talk" Command to raise their goodwill with each other so that they will Protect and Assist each other when they can. Be careful not to go too far up and get Roget's attention! I highly suggest bringing one or two characters over to Mizuki and Akaghi when they come into battle. Even if you used them both constantly, they will probably be underlevelled at this point, and quite a bit weaker then your other characters. Hopefully they will have a few items equipped to them to help them survive. Note: Sometimes you will notice the human enemies on this level being rather dumb and staying on the upper level. If this happens, you can snipe them down with archers, such as Flare, Sigurd, or Seneca, even though you are on the lower level as long as they are your attack range you can hit them. When you directly engage Roget, be sure to have everyone completely healed. When on his own terrain, his spells are very strong, and will do over 80 points of damage. Also, he summons two more Fishman (an Orange and a Blue) the moment you attack him so he has his own backup to call. Kill off the Blue immediately so that it does not heal Roget, and finish Roget off in as quick of manner as possible (and keep him off the Wind Terrain!). Mizuki's Shrine Rune and Kika's Falcon Rune are great assets against Roget. ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~ ~~~ Chapter 12: The Road to Caleron ~~~ ~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~ As the chapter begins, you gain 7 (!) new characters, and Mizuki and Akaghi rejoin your party. Swordsman (Level 10-15) HP:~85-140 Chest 1: Star Earrings Klk. Spearman (Level 11-15) HP:~95-130 Dig Spot: Viking Sheld Klk. Bowman (Level 10-12) HP:~80-95 --------------------------------- Klk. Staff-User (Level 11) HP: ~75 Officer (Level 15) HP:~140 Water Elemental (Level 15) HP:~115 Martin (Level 18) HP:~195 --------------------------------------- Now that we have so many characters that we will never (and can never) use in battle, the game has given us an incredibly useful command, called Switch. Switching a character in critical range out of battle is a great way of saving a characters life. But also, remember that once a character has been switched out, they can not re-enter the current battlefield. This is a nice way to get characters lik Rene into battle, who die so easily normally, but when the battle is over and you want to hunt treasure safely when only an elemental is there. Also note that mostly all of the enemies on the battlefield are either Water or Wind elemental. Therefore, that Water Elemental will hinder you more then it will help you, so you will probably want to kill it quickly. I suggest going after the enemies to the south and southeast before trying to head straight for the boss, Martin. If you do this, the enemies by Martin will not attack you, and you'll also deal with everything down here at the same time. Setting some strong elemental Terrain towards your weaker characters will help consderably. Try taking down the Spearmen and the Staff-User first of all, and then take down the Swordsmen and the Bowmen at your own leisure. You might want to play around with Switch a bit, as the enemies are not rediculously difficult. After the first enemies are taken down (the first 6 of them) three more of them pop up from behind (to the east). These are a Bowman, a Spearman, and a Swordsman. Once again, take down the Spearman first, and the other two after that. At this point, the other enemies from the west -may- be approaching you, so you might also have to deal with them as well. After defeating this next set, and two of the next round of enemies, another set of enemies spawns into existence. So frustrating! At this point it might be good to just attack Martin head on, but you will take a lot of damage, and unless you have characters to take down Martin on a Mount quickly (he has high defense and HP) it is probably more danger then it is worth. Keep killing off enemies by which is strongest (and the most threat). Note that if you kill off one of the secondly spawned set, then yet - another- new set spawns onto the screen. At this point, there will probably be a -lot- of enemies on screen. Hopefully your characters are still alive and you have most of your MP. Note that if you decide to spawn this last set you will be pretty much required to clear all of the enemies before taking on Martin, since there will be so many, and Martin himself is rather strong. In total, if you want to kill everything on the
