INTRODUCTION This is an FAQ for the US (NTSC) version of Atelier Iris: Eternal Mana. I haven’t played the Japanese or PAL versions of the game, so I cannot say whether the information contained herein applies to those versions. The purpose of this guide is to serve as a reference for every possible recipe that can be used to make items in Shop Synthesis, and to help you obtain the maximum quality possible for the items synthesized. In addition, I've included a comprehensive list of ingredients, their qualities, their associated reviews, and where they can be found. I originally wanted to write an FAQ only on synthesizing items of the highest quality possible, but I realized two things. One is that there are multiple ways to make the highest-quality items for several recipes. The other is that the rarity of some of the ingredients can be somewhat prohibitive, so if you aren't at or near the end of the game or don't have all of the ingredients necessary, such a guide might not help you if you'd like to make high-quality (but not the highest-quality) items given the ingredients you have available. For those reasons, I decided to compile a list of the ingredients you can use to make each item. Because this turns out to be a lot of information, I have included a short-hand guide at the end to making the highest-quality items possible. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ III. HOW TO USE THIS GUIDE & OTHER NOTES The format I've used to list the recipes requires some explanation, so I will do so with a couple of examples taken from the guide itself. Underneath that, you can see that Karikari Liquor results from the combination of two ingredients, each listed in separate columns (Ingr. 1 and Ingr. 2). The first ingredient, Karikari Nuts, is a mandatory ingredient for this item, so it is the only item that appears in the Ingr. 1 column. The second ingredient can be any of the nine items listed in the Ingr. 2 column. At the beginning of the game, only a fraction of these nine items will appear in the Karikari Liquor synthesis menu. In general, ingredients only appear in the synthesis menu once you've actually obtained them. Combining the Karikari Nuts with any of the nine items in the second column will yield Karikari Liquor. Next to each ingredient, I've also listed its quality under the "Q." For items with variable qualities (those ingredients which themselves can be synthesized, in this example that means the last seven ingredients in column 2), I've listed the highest possible quality for them because I think that is the most informative. The overall quality of a synthesized item is calculated as the average of the qualities of the ingredients that you used to make it, rounded down in all cases. Using this fact, I have calculated the qualities of all of the ingredients in the game, even though their qualities are not explicitly stated during gameplay. In the Karikari Liquor example, we see that the Karikari Nuts have a quality of 40, while the Red Wine has a quality of 70. The quality of Karikari Liquor made with those two ingredients thus would be (70+40)/2 = 55. In this example, obtaining the maximum quality Karikari Liquor is straightforward, since the only the second ingredient is variable: quality 73 Hell Soju is the ingredient with the highest quality in the column, so this is the ingredient you need to use if you want to make a quality 56 Karikari Liquor ((40+73)/2 = 56.5, rounded down to 56). Recipes aren't always so straightforward, though. The situation becomes more complicated when one group of ingredients can be used to make multiple items (for example, RosieAnn Buns, Liquor, or Fungo recipes). These recipes all stem from the Peach Cocktail recipe, which is #2 in Norman's Shop. For that reason, I've indicated that the Lando Sour recipe is derived from the Peach Cocktail recipe with the "(From 2.)" note. Because altering the ingredients you use in this subset of recipes can give you different items within that subset, I've listed only the combinations of ingredients that actually will give you a Lando Sour. These combinations are indicated by the horizontal bars in this recipe table. These horizontal divisions split the table into allowable combinations that will result in a Lando Sour, as opposed to another type of liquor, like the Peach Cocktail or Stardust. For example, if you elect to use a Lando as your second ingredient, then that restricts you to the four ingredients listed across from the Lando in the Ingr. 4 column if you want to get a Lando Sour. If you choose a Sweet Lando or Lovely Lando as your second ingredient, then you can use any of the five ingredients listed across from them in the Ingr. 4 column to get a Lando Sour. If you use a Twisted Lando as your second ingredient, then any of the six ingredients across from it in the Ingr. 4 column will give you a Lando Sour. If, however, you choose a Lando and do NOT choose either the Maple Syrup, Secret Ingredient, Leheruun Cream, or Caramel Cube, you will not get a Lando Sour. If you use a Lando and Brown Sugar, for example, you would get a Peach Cocktail (this combination appears in that recipe). You can safely interchange Milk and Goat Milk in this recipe and still get a Lando Sour, however, since there are no horizontal divisions the Ingr. 1 column. In addition, Karikari Liquor is mandatory for this recipe, as indicated by the lack of divisions in the Ingr. 3 column. Using this table to obtain a maximum quality (63) Lando Sour is still quite simple. You can use either Milk or Goat Milk as your first item since both have the same quality. Lovely Lando is the item with the highest quality in the second column, and Karikari Liquor is mandatory as the third ingredient. Having chosen the Lovely Lando, you now can choose any of the five ingredients across from it in the Ingr. 4 column. Quality 59 Leheruun Cream is the highest quality item of the group, so use it. The result: (50+90+56+59)/4 = 63.75. Round that down, and you have a quality of 63. There are a few items for which the maximum quality calculation can be tough because of the sheer size of some of the recipe tables (for example, the Fairy Clothes or some of the RosieAnn Buns) and the complicated divisions. It's probably just easier in such cases to use the "Maximum Quality" guide in Section V. Speaking of maximum quality items, it is important to note that when you save a recipe in the shop menu, the quality you've saved applies to the items you have in your inventory as well, even if they were made with different ingredients. For example, if you have six low-quality Metal Pipes in your inventory, and then make one quality 80 Metal Pipe and save that recipe in the menu, all six of the pipes in your inventory also will obtain quality 80. Similarly, you can make one quality 80 Metal Pipe, save the recipe in the menu, and make several new Metal Pipes with sub-par ingredients. As long as you don't save over the quality 80 recipe in the shop menu, any Metal Pipes you make will have a quality of 80, regardless of the ingredients you used to make them. This is important because it allows you to save rare items, like Gold Metal or Gold Legien, when you want to make several copies of high- quality items. I also want to point out that for the recipe groups that had a staggering number of combinations--The Dragon Slayer/Puni Slayer/Demon Slave group, the Baked Pie/Fruit Pie group, and the RosieAnn Bun group--I had to rely on patterns that emerged as I recorded which combinations gave me which items. There was no way I could have maintained my sanity and verified every combination's result for these groups, because there are thousands of possibilities. There is a glitch by which you can make a quality 43 Bomb via the Rocket Flame recipe (recipe below) and save it in the menu. Once you do this, the Bomb recipe in the menu will list the ingredients for the Rocket Flame, minus the Flax Cloth (i.e., Groovecube and Craft). Despite this, making quality 43 Bombs will consume a Flax Cloth; however, you can still make quality 43 Bombs even when you run out of Flax Cloths. Although the menu displays the Groovecube + Craft recipe when you highlight the Bomb, you will be unable to make a bomb using those ingredients without doing it through the Rocket Flame recipe. Another point to note is that once you save the quality 43 Bomb recipe in the menu, it affects the Icy Bomb and Big Bomb recipes as well if you proceed to make either of them through the Bomb recipe rather than their own respective recipes once you've saved them. If you make either of them through the Bomb recipe after you've saved it as Groovecube + Craft, you will get a +15 boost to quality to both of these recipes. This +15 bonus occurs because the Flax Cloth has a quality of 30 but the game still divides by 2 (not 3) (30/2 = 15) to calculate the quality of these items since the Flax Cloth, the third ingredient, is "hidden" in the recipes. I realize that the explanation is confusing, so maybe another example is in order. Let's say, previous to even obtaining the Rocket Flame recipe, you've made a Bomb, Icy Bomb, and Big Bomb, so that all three appear in the synthesis menu. Then, you obtain the Rocket Flame recipe. You proceed to select the recipe, and choose a Groovecube and Craft. This will make a quality 43 Bomb, whose recipe you then save. Next, you select the Bomb recipe--which is now listed as Groovecube + Craft--and this time, you select the Gold Legien + Fest Rock. This will create an Icy Bomb, but since the Bomb recipe had a Flax Cloth saved in it via the Rocket Flame recipe, and since you went through this Bomb recipe to make an Icy Bomb, you will get a +15 quality bonus to your Icy Bomb. The same is true of the Big Bomb if you make one through the new Bomb recipe. However, if you save the quality 43 Bomb recipe in the menu, and then make an Icy Bomb by actually selecting the Icy Bomb recipe in the menu rather than the new Bomb recipe, you will not get the +15 bonus.
