Overview

After a few years of being absent from the big screen, the bad boys team of Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett from Miami's finest police department are back in action. This time around the duo is on the hunt for a crime lord behind the flow of ecstasy drugs coming into Miami. Things however becomes complicated when the bad boys find out that Marcus's sister Syd is also involve with the ecstasy case. Who is Syd working for and why is she involved with the money flow from ecstasy drugs remains to be seen? On top of this, Marcus is pondering to look for a new partner as Mike's wild ways are now becoming too much of a burden for him to handle. As the case unfolds, Mike developed a relationship with Marcus's sister which further puts the strain on the duo relationship with one another. Will the bad boys kill each other first before solving their narcotic case or will the drug kingpin kill them first? Its two hours of big action, car chases, and laughs as the famous cop duo fight off bad guys and each other. This movie reunites Martin Lawrence and Will Smith as the famous bad boy cops with director Michael Bay behind the camera.

Good

This is an action comedy movie. In terms of action and comedy, the movie has both. The good part is that if you're looking for a macho man movie then I guess this movie is it. Big guns, fast cars, nice looking women, and swear words, this movie has it all. The look of the movie is nice as well as the sound effects and track. It's all about looking cool and being bad but in a good way. So the movie comes off well. The entertainment factor clearly comes from the two main actors, Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. Will Smith plays the wild run and shoot em up cop while Martin Lawrence plays the more serious let's talk it over cop, opposite of one another. This is where the chemistry of Will Smith and Martin Lawrence comes in. During their dialogue, the two actually bounce off of one another in their scenes. And you can really tell that they are having fun doing it. It's just a treat to watch Will Smith character making life difficult for Martin Lawrence character in the movie. Some of these exchanges between the two characters are just plain hilarious. A classic work between two former stand up comedians. It is these classic moments between the two that made watching the movie an enjoyment. And if it's not the moments between the two main characters then it's the exchanges between the two cops and their captain played beautifully by Joe Pantoliano. Joe Pantoliano as Captain Howard in the movie is a major plus. Every scene that he's in is a treat to watch and just plain funny. The only shame is that there aren't more scenes for Joe Pantoliano. Even the supporting characters such as the spanish speaking cops are funny. This movie will definitely make you laugh. You'll have a good time watching it for sure.

Bad

In terms of the bad, I would probably point out to some of the settings that take place in the movie as well as the ending of the movie. The idea of some big drug kingpin from Cuba trying to take over the city drug trade doesn't seem too realistic to me. Especially in the end where the kingpin even has control of a portion of the Cuban army in Cuba. I guess Castro must've become even more dumber with old age to allow some drug kingpin to be commanding portion of his army. It just doesn't come off too realistic. The car chases are exciting but not too realistic. Machine guns going off and cars getting smashed to bits and no one from the top of the police department or the mayor office calling the chase off when the car chase itself can endangered innocent bystanders. Especially when the car chase is being filmed live by a news crew. Miami police officers live in big houses and drive around with nice looking sports car? That's kind of hard to swallow seeing as most police officers think they are underpaid. And to make things even more unrealistic, near the end of the movie, the Miami police force goes commando and invade Cuba to fight and rescue a hostage from a drug kingpin and the Cuban army. How unrealistic is that? If there's a hostage situation in Cuba, it would involve the CIA, FBI, the State Department and even the White House. It sure doesn't involve a police task force invading another country without the permission from the White House or the State Department. These are some of the examples of certain errors in the movie where the movie failed to show any attempt of approaching a realistic view of a situation. Sure watching a movie is about getting away from reality but you don't want to bend that reality too much to the point where it becomes too unbelievable to believe in. I was able to look away at some of the other stuff but when I start seeing police officers dressing up in commando outfit and invading another country, I start to shake my head in disbelief. The movie had me going until the end. If there's a clear bad spot, I would say it's the ending. It's not very believable.

Bonus

This 2 disc dvd package consist of quite a bonus package. Bonus features includes seven deleted scenes, theatrical trailers, stuns & visual featurettes, 19 production dairy featurettes, widescreen format, Jay-Z music video, and six sequences breakdown from set footage to scripts. The main bonus package or the heart of the bonus package comes in the form of the six sequences breakdown which gives fans the insight on how some scenes are done and planned out. There's over an hour worth of bonus features to look over so it's a good bang for your dollars invested in the DVD disc. Downside is that there's no movie version with commentaries from the creator of the movie. Not that I can remember or see. A bonus package should at least always provide a version where you can hear commentaries from the creators to see what their intent was during that scene. Oh well. Not too much of a big deal as there are lots of other stuff you can look through.

Final Analysis

Okay in terms of the story or script, the movie wasn't all that. However after I finished watching the movie, I have to say that I did have a good time overall. The movie did make me laugh out loud more than a few times and I did enjoy the interaction between the characters in the movie. In a word, I was satisfied with it. And if I'm satisfied with it then the movie gets two thumbs up for me. Good action with good laugh equals good movie. Out weighting whatever bad stuff that may be present. If you got some free time and some popcorn on hand, then go out and put this DVD movie into your DVD player and have a good time cause it's all in good fun.
